Great little spot

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 16 May 2015
I loved my stay here. Soluna Guesthouse is a little spot in the middle of a village near Pentai Cenang. It's cheap, comfortable, and the staff is great! You can walk through a field behind the house to get to the main road (and beach), and though I didn't use this service, they'll book motorbikes and cars for you. They'll also help you arrange tours, book taxis and give general advice. One reviewer said to take a taxi at night because of the black cat who likes to sleep in the road, but I solved the problem with a flashlight (it's really not worth it for a taxi. You would be in the car maybe 2 minutes). The cat, by the way, is friendly, and would often follow me around or purr around my legs on the way back to the Guesthouse.

I stayed in the dorm and if I had one gripe it would be that the air con can only be turned on from 7pm to 7am, so if you're looking for a nap in the afternoon, your best best is the lovely porch with the hammocks as your room is a mess. However, this was a small thing (for 5USD/night, I can't really complain) and the communal area and atmosphere certainly makes up for any inconvenience. The bathrooms and rooms are cleaned well once every day and there are lovely kitties running around the property (all of Langkawi, really, but Soluna spays or neuters the strays they take in, which I appreciate). I highly recommend this place if you're looking for somewhere cheap, comfortable, and with helpful staff!

Room Tip: I stayed in the dorm for air con as I was traveling alone (on the advice of another traveler) and...

This place had great value for the money. The rooms were clean and big enough. The showers hot. Your not right on the beach, its about 150 metres away. They have a relaxed outdoor sitting area. You will pay more at other places nearby. This place is at the quieter end of Cenang beach.

I stayed at Soluna with my 11 year old son on a backpacking trip around Malaysia. Our room was comfortable. It was warm, but the fan was adequate. The shower was clean and the mattress was fine. What was tremendous was the atmosphere. Although it was so close to the main strip full of shops and cafes, Soluna was peaceful. It felt like we were in the middle of nowhere.
We loved the hammocks. Top marks for those.

Room tip: the twin room with a fan was great.

Location is awesome! You can enjoy the tranquility of living in a kampong with buffalos chomping in the paddy field just next to the hotel early in the morning and just a minutes of walk, you're in Pantai Chenang area where all the happening places are. There are 2 hammocks at the reception area, my favourite hang out place. Rooms are clean and the pillows and beds are really comfortable to my surprise. Water heater works fine, water pressure is good, no issues with the air-conditioner. I was there only for one night and i had an early morning flight to catch the next morning, so i didnt get to really enjoy the sanctuary much. Word of advice though, take a cab back to Soluna at night instead of walking home through the villages. The walkway is very dark, my husband accidentally stepped on a sleeping cat on our walk back. Doesn't help that the cat is black in colour and of course he got scratched on his feet for stepping on the poor c at. The cat even stalked us back, sprint past us and climbed the coconut trees, and followed us back to our room! I don't blame the cat but honestly, its pretty scary as she looks like shes ready to attack us anytime soon. She even waited outside our hut for a while, i hope she survived the night as she's no where to be spotted the next morning. So just take the cab back instead of walking back to the guest house if you can to reduce the stress. Btw, the guest house is about 15mins away from airport, so not too bad. The receptionist arranged for a cab for us the next morning to the airport, it only cost us RM20.

It is easy to see why travelers extend their stay at Soluna!! Time seems to slow down here and the peace and quiet at the guest house provide the perfect getaway from the ardors of life.

A quite sanctuary just 5 mins walk away from the main Pantai Cenang with clean rooms, friendly staff, hammocks to spend the hot afternoons in and interesting conversations with fellow travelers.. It has all the ingredients for a relaxing holiday..

The rooms are cleaned everyday with the helpful staff always ready to help you out with all your needs- be it helping out with a motorbike rental, booking a tour for island hopping or booking a taxi for the airport. Breakfast is served till 1 p.m. just in case you had a late night out and slept in longer- though that is difficult with the tropical heat in Malaysia despite the very effective air conditioners in the rooms. The toilets and showers are clean and a variety of shops along the Pantai Cenang road satisfy hunger pangs through the day.

A typical day at Soluna would start with a trip to the beach and breakfast (or the other way round if you prefer), spending the afternoon in the hammocks with a book or chatting with other guests in the guest house with cold beer to beat the heat..and back to the beach to catch the sunset and dinner and drinks on the beach.

An absolute gem nestled among coconut trees and fields so very close to the sun and the sand. Great value for money!! My first choice whenever I go to Langkawi.

Soluna Guest House is such a wonderful little sanctuary only 5 minutes off of the Main Road in Langkawi. We were lucky to find it on google maps and only booked one night to try it out. Once we arrived we immediately extended our stay till our departure from Langkawi. There is a general feeling of peace and relaxation, the team is very nice and helps with scooter rentals and such. The rooms (we had a standard basic double with shared bathroom) are very clean, have a cute interior and make you feel at home.
Breakfast can be bought until 1pm and provided a great Müsli with yoghurt which made us Austrians super happy.
Ultimately this place has the most competitive prices we have come across during our entire stay in Malaysia.
I would recommend Soluna Guest House do any kind of traveller, from backpackers to couples and families alike.
Many thanks to the team for making our stay in Langkawi so terrificly pleasant!

Room tip: I would recommend choosing the A/C option for rooms.
