Could Have Been Better

Review of Min House Camp
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 25 Feb 2024
It was my bad coz I set a high expectation based on the reviews written years back before the covid hit.

But still it was a good experience for my 3 year old son.

Please call before coming because they have to make few arrangements prior.

Entrance was free but each activities came with a fee, ended up paying rm 50 for 3 person. Activities were fun, spent total of 2 and a half hours here.

Place is bit far from the main road.
Apart from the friendly owner and staffs, there's so much room of improvement esp the cleanliness of the surroundings and more organised activities.

We drove through kampung road before arriving at MHC. But after driving out in the evening, the kampung route wasnt scary no more.

We stayed two nights in MIn House Camp. four to a room. Good aircond. Very small toilet and bathroom but adequate hot water shower albeit at low pressure. Parking is not an issue unless there is a big group here for meeting. Yes, they have a small conference room!!

We went canoeing in the evening. We had char kueh teow timur-style for dinner with the local specialty teh limau madu. The next morning we had nasi kerabu kambing/daging berasap for breakfast. The dinner and breakfast outlets were just outside the kampung on the main road..

Kak Yah shared with us on composting and aquaponics.

We collected lokan or clams in the evening when it was raining. It was an experience wading in the knee-deep mud and using bare hands to feel for the clam shells. After dinner we walked to a nearby bridge to look at fireflies. The fireflies here are of the synchronous kind.

The following morning before departure, we had a look at stingless beehouses and sip a small sample of pure honey from the egg-shaped pots.

This is a must thing-to-do if one travel to kota bharu.

Thank you Kak Yah and family.

I have stayed in Min House Camp for multiple times. Firstly, you must don't have a mind set that this is a world class resort that have an office and staff like a fully operational modern resort nowadays. It is a nature resort manage by a family but this resort is now is an attention for tourists around the world.

Many comers from various countries such as France, Spain, UK, United States and many more have come and stayed here. You can come and do many activities such as watching fireflies and learn about herbs and plants inside the camp.

You can also do kayaking, organise team building and they event have a program especially for kindergarden named Young Farmer Educational Program. You will experience fun and traquility whenever you are in the resort.

For any enquiries you can contact Mrs Wan Noriah 019-922 8440.

Room tip: Try the bamboo house, it is just beside the river

A place where you have honey bee (kelulut species) guided tour at RM 10 per person but this money is actually to help the down syndrome association. The owner will personally explain and bring you around the bees farm. This place is not those commercial honey farm. As such you could only purchase their "kelulut" honey if you are lucky. Was told you can have camping and home stay here but we are here only for 2 hours.

We stayed here for 2 nights on our way to the Perhentian Islands. We came straight from the airport, and the taxi driver had no problem finding it. The setting is lovely, surrounded by lush vegetation, a river flowing by, and an extensive garden. The people are a highlight, super friendly and hospitable hosts who are happy to give local advice and organise taxis, ferry tickets etc.

We enjoyed being shown around the extensive garden, learning about the bees and tasting their amazing 'sweet and sour' honey, and a short trip on the river in canoes (be prepared to get a bit wet!) to see the fireflies. We went for a walk through the nearby village, hoping to eat at the local cafe/restaurant, unfortunately, it was closed, so we stopped in at the noodle shack by the bridge for a great lunch, simple but tasty. On our way back from a walk, we had fresh coconut there and a chat with locals who were very welcoming.
We had breakfasts and dinner in the dining room at Min House Camp, and I enjoyed trying different local food.
The rooms are simply furnished, we had aircon and attached bathroom (some dorms don't), chair, tv, small fridge. Outside there are places to walk, sit, read, watch the river. This is a place to slow down, breath deeply and enjoy the setting and if that is what you are looking for you will love it. Min house camp also hosts large groups and conferences so while we had a very quiet day, by the evening there were two larger groups staying there. The only thing that marred our stay was a school camp who were there on our second night and were anything but peaceful through the night, so it could pay to check who else is sharing the complex with you! Other than that, we loved our stay.

Room tip: Aircon and attached bathroom are well worth it, as the other rooms are very basic.
