We spent only 2 nights at this resort but I will desire to get here again in my life. To get to the resort you have to cross the river with a local boat (2 minutes). The employee of the resort welcome their guest at the entrance very kindly. Itself the resort is beautiful park in the jungle, with small bungalows. Interior of these bungalows fits to the atmosphere of the resort. We loved it! The staff of the resort is professional, I enjoyed to talked to them as they liked this place. We ate phenomenal meals (local and international) so I liked to say many thank to the chef. We took excursions leading by employees of the resort and we learnt a lot about this phantastic world.
I could recommend this resort for the nature lovers!

We signed up for this tour to experience and to explore the rainforest jungle. We found the staff available to solve any need. Taking the 4 hours bus ride followed by a 3 hour motorized canoe ride is recommended and I second that. The resort is more touristy than I hoped and we really did not see any wildlife. But the small creatures and insects we saw were interesting as were the hikes and the visit to a village of Oranj Asli. The opportunity for a great massage at a reasonable price was very special. The guides are excellent and provide much information.

Unfortunately, the week I was there the canopy walk was under maintenance prior high touristic season, but if you are considering stopping by, I would stay at the Mutiara Taman Negara hotel, directly into the park.
The hotel is so clean and eco-friendly, food is good and employees are nice. Rooms are really clean.
I would suggest the night boat ride in the jungle, and the rapids the next day!

We stayed for 4 days in Taman Negara, one of the oldest rainforests in the world. Hotels and tour operators offer a variety of tours. Unfortunately, it seems to be no longer possible to book a tour guide over the headquarter. Longer tours such as hiking to the summit of Gunung Tahan should be booked in advance.

We avoided any group tours in order to get the most out of our stay.

Recommended shorter tours for nature lovers:

- Hiking to Bukit Terisek (344m, great views) and back via the long trail (steep path, fallen trees, lots of leeches during rainy season, therefore leech socks are highly recommended) 4 to 5 hours depending on the fitness level, can be combined with the Canopy Walk, can be done without a guide
- Hiking to Lata Berkoh and the highest tree in Malaysia, 3 to 5 hours depending on weather conditions and fitness level (again, lots of leeches), can be done without a guide, although some paths are difficult to find (therefore a guide is recommended)
- Night walks around the pathways of the hotel (forest loop, swampland loop); bring a quality torchlight and do it without a group
- Boat tour to Late Berkoh and back to Kuala Tahan

We spotted many different animals in their natural habitat: hornbills, macaques, gibbons, monitor lizards in different sizes, Blyth's giant frog, tree frogs, an owl, squirrels, wild boars, tapirs, different deers, wild elephants (down the river close to Late Berkoh), different snakes and lots of insects.

There are plenty of choices for people who want to experience a tropical rainforest, but do not really want to hike, families with younger children, campers, visitors going on short or longer trips etc.

We could have easily stayed for another day and would have hired a guide to either hike to Kuala Trengganu along Sungai Tembeling (around 9.1km) or explore one of the many caves in the park close enough to Kuala Tahan.

It may be a beautiful national park, but the way it's run is disappointing.

The good:
- The park itself is beautiful and the walkway is well maintained
- There is enough parking near the entrance
- You get to take a short boat ride to enter the park, which adds to the drama

The bad:
- The information booth staff is completely demotivated and not helpful at all.
- The place is full of team building groups and school camps, which all yell and sing
- Why is a natural site, and natural place closed for religious reasons on Fridays?

In short, they can't make up their mind if it's a nature reserve or some kind of tourist attraction. It's not worth the long drive to get there.
