Warm welcome from the woman on reception. Room was big with a useful table. Hot shower was good. Aircon worked well. Wifi excellent. We asked for a room at the back to be away from road noise and it was quiet for 2 out of 3 nights.
The restaurant on the corner opposite hotel is excellent for cheap dosas for breakfast. There is also a Chinese food court open at breakfast behind the hotel. In the evening if you turn right out of the hotel, turn right at the next big corner, you will find a local Tauge Ayam (chicken, bean sprouts noodles) place that was excellent.
It is a 15 min walk to the new town for more food options, and a 20 min walk to the old town for sights. Ipoh is not the most exciting place to walk round! On 3rd night there was an alarm from the car showroom next door going off all night.
We booked a taxi with the older male receptionist when we left as we hadn't seen any pass the hotel and didn't fancy the 25 min walk to the station with luggage. He told us it would be 15 ringgits. We should have known better but trusted him as staff had seemed helpful and friendly. It was our first Malaysian taxi so we didn't know that meter prices are much much lower. We paid around double what it should have been and it left a bad feeling for the hotel.
