This was a very convenient place to stay in Ipoh. We had to visit to help a friend. The Excelsior did the job.
It was clean and tidy. Bathroom etc in good working order.
Not far from the station and local restaurants.
The staff were helpful.

Fast check in. We like the soft pillows, 2 per person, and retractable clothes line. Shower did not wet floor outside. Breakfast was ok. However we were surprised that boiled eggs (hard or soft) were not available. Hand towel not available even when asked for. Walking distance to 2 highly recommended restaurants: Ipoh Tuck Kee Restaurant and Yuk Sou Hin.

The Management
Stayed here on our way to Betong. An average stay, nothing fanciful, room was ok, decent size, but lightings are a tad dim. Breakfast spread was average but the hotel seems crowded. The location is decent as there are quite some eateries nearby within walking distance.
We stayed for a couple of nights. The shower was dirty with mood around the bottom of walls, we had ask for more toilet paper and towels and soap. Was a small room with a dirty window, not just on the outside but on inside.
Staff were ok, but that friendly, almost got the impression they didn’t want to be there. The restaurant downstairs was nice for breakfast and the staff there were outstanding. Same about the rest.
Hotel is relatively clean for it's age. However, amenities is very basic. No face towels, basic toiletries, only 1 bottle of body wash and shampoo per room, does not have cups in toilets sink for toothbrush, etc. Breakfast was surprisingly not bad for the price of the room. Rather good spread. Wifi is definitely not high speed. In fact, I'm better off using my Digi 4G data. For those are driving, free multi level parking is provided. However, the turns can be extremely difficult for wider bodies vehicles.
For the price that I pay I could get much more. It supposed to be a mid price range hotel but you could get more else where. Can feel that the hotel should be better managed.
1. Very stiff bed with TWO very stiff pillow, it is the first hotel that I cannot sleep the whole night because the pillow was too stiff + very thick. Gave me stiff neck the next morning & ruin your day. Any hotel with experience would not give you TWO very stiff pillow, they mix 1 soft and 1 stiff pillow to cater to more people (and I search the cupboard, no other pillow)
2. I paid more for a hotel with it's own parking, but the parking was full at 8pm just because there is a function going on, was told to park after 10.30pm...
3. On 11th floor you can hear loud karaoke music from hotel ground floor (the function I supposed), that continues till almost 11pm... Who on earth would allow karaoke on ground floor lounge when it can be heard all the way up to 11th floor... I pity those that stay at lower floor. Across the road there is a food court also with loud music till 12am.
4. Cleanliness can be better, the room is not dirty but can feel it's a bit dusty
5. Expose wire next to bathroom sink
6. Though I know it is not guaranteed, it is the first time after I opt for king bed I was told because hotel is full they only have 2 single bed. Very rare for me to experience this.
So in short I can't recommend this hotel to anyone. You just would get a lot more with the same price else where.
