I stayed in this hotel 6 years ago an it was remarkably average then . It's nickname of the Orient One Star was well deserved then. This time my comapany booked me into one of their suites. I've had things stolen from my room, varying from a toothbrush charger to an iPod, and the management do not seem to care.
In the rooms the bedclothes are changed daily, but please do not be present when this is done, as you will see what lurks under the "fresh" white linen. Never, ever lift up the bed to see whats underneath it. I don't recall a vacuum ever being used in any of the rooms while i spent my 2 months there. Some of the stains on the carpet looked like they would take industrial chemicals to remove.
The laundry service is stuff of legend. Be prepared to receive your clothes in differnt colours and sizes, if at all. You'll more than likely be chasing round the hotel, trying to find what room your clothes ended up in!!!!
I've only ever eaten in the restaurant for breakfast, and those time that I have, the fight for your breakfast between yourself and the many birds that seem to frequent the hotel restaurants is something to video. I suggest you let the birds win, as the they can suffer from the likely food poisoning, instead of you.
On the plus side, the hotel is spitting distance from the Naval Base, if that's where you're going to be working. There is free Wifi in the lobby and some of the rooms, when it's working. Possibly on the first floor too. 2nd & 3rd floor can forget it. Suites also have Sat TV. It's also near some half decent bars/eateries (Jook's and Capri's)

The lobby and pool look nice but the rooms are worn out and mildewed. Our deluxe room had a balcony but the air conditioning units are mounted on the balcony wall so you don't want to be out there with all that noise. It was not cheap for what you got. Plusses were free Wi-Fi which reached into our room, good water pressure although the shower curtain was too short and water got on the bathroom floor. In room frig with no minibar which is a plus. No in room safe, not enough toilet paper as is normal in Asia. Free parking for our rental car. Better to simply take the ferry to Pangkor Laut and skip this place. A plus however is that it's an easy walk into the small town where there are lots of shops, restaurants, travel agents and laundry. Another plus however is it looks like the best hotel in town which is handy if you aren't ready to take the ferry to Pangkor Laut Island. The beach sand is course, the ocean water murky and the beach isn't really clean.

We initially made reservations at the Blue Bay resort but decided to cancel them after we drove past Orient Star and saw that it looked alot better than Blue Bay from the outside. We booked 2 rooms at a promo rate of RM168 per room per night which was a good deal considering that the rooms were very spacious, clean, quiet and nicely furnished with large balconies overlooking the sea. Located at the corner of Lumut town, its a mere 10 min walk to town where one can find food and do some shopping. However, breakfast which came with the rooms was rather basic and lacked variety. But overall it is still good value for money.

Stayed 1 night at the hotel. Being told the best around in Lumut town. Location is good, just 5 minutes walk to town and the jetty to Pangkor Island. The hotel looks grand from the front and lobby is quite spacious but with very few staffs.
We got a standard room at 2nd floor with breakfast at RM183 nett which we believe was quite a good deal.

No comment on the size of the room and view (pool view) for the price we paid, however :-
1. room furnishing are old and tired. The closet door were broken with some wooden planks missing
2. TV is too small - 14 inch and No cable channel
3. location of air-cond compressor unit at the balcony is a bad choice due to its heat and noise emission
4. the floor is basically clean BUT at some parts due to aging, especially wall wooden skirting are old and moldy
5. toilet tiles at bathing area are old, cracked and moldy including the tiles below the mirrors next to the sink
6. hot water is limited, it stopped after few minutes

We had breakfast and there were not much choice of food, perhaps it was during the month of Ramadhan (fasting month). There were flies on the food and one fell into the gravy for Nasi Lemak. Surprisingly, the staffs did not even notice it. Some of the rattan chairs for dining are broken and should be taken away for safety reasons.

Pool is clean but a little old. The beach is not meant for swimming but the hotel should make the effort to clean up the beach.

Will visit this hotel again if there is major makeover.

I have stayed in this hotel several times and it has become a favourite destination whenever i am in this part of Malaysia. It is sited at a corner of Lumut town which is near the town but tucked away from the noise. The room is spacious and has lovely view of the water. The facilities are adequate and the buffet breakfast is okay. Like the omelette though. Service is friendly. A good place to relax. The room rate is value for money for this 3-star hotel.
