Easily booked and paid for, picked up on time - always a good start.
A drive around the island gave a view of Penang beyond George Town. Then into rural Malaysia, Princilla provided masses of local knowledge as we cruised along. The cycling was nearly all flat and not technical, frequent stops for water, food and information made the day pass quickly even though it rained for much of it! Dropped back to accommodation for a shower with lots of good memories after a great day, thanks Princilla and SJ

From start to finish you’ll experience some of the real culture of Penang. You’ll meet plenty of locals, see plenty of the Penang landscape as you cycle at a leisurely pace. Extremely well organised with great guides. Lasting memories, a highlight of my trip.

We’ve had some great experiences in various parts of the world, but this cycle tour in Penang has topped them all.
Booking was very smooth, as was the pickup by TC with a very safe drive to meet our hosts Princilla and SJ. We were warmly greeted by name, were soon fitted to the bicycles and headed off.
Priscilla’s connection to the local hamlet communities is very strong, and everywhere we were made to feel most welcome.
A wonderful variety of experiences was presented to us including farming, fishing, coconut harvesting where we saw a “man-go” up a coconut tree, palm oil collection and rice growing.
Delicious local foods were sampled and we even had goat milk ice cream.
We got soaked and dried out a couple of times, we saw a huge monitor eating a big fish, loads of monkeys and some beautiful birds.
This was all topped off with a lunch which included some of our requests, then a final drive back with TC.
A remarkable way to experience life behind the tourist scene on Penang. We hope to experience another Princilla and SJ tour one day.

We did a bike tour with Princilla who was super knowledgeable and passionate about Penang. She first took us to a farm where we fed goats and discovered some local products, then to a palm oil plantation where we could experience the hard work of the workers there. All along our tour, we discovered beautiful landscapes and remotes fishing villages. We also tried delicious food at several places and enjoyed a perfect meal on the way. Everything was super organized, from pick-up to drop-off, and even assistance for the biking. Another way to discover this beautiful island! I

I booked the countryside tour, which was excellent, allowing good contact with local people and their day to day lives. Bikes were new, multigeared and good helmets were supplied and adjusted for safety. Princilla was our guide, and her husband was back up, with a car which appeared at various points on the trip. We joined in with locals at a cafe in a village when all were wanting to talk with us, we saw some of their local industries, and also toured some palm tree areas, even had a go at harvesting the fruit (with the help of the local farmers). The cycling is off road, on small tracks, e,g, around padi fields, and there were quite a lot of birds to see as well. I was concerned the heat and cycling might prove overwhelming, but it was not – there were multiple stops in the shade, and lots of water to drink. If you can manage a 45 minute bike ride on the flat, are of moderate fitness and can work the bike gears, this should be OK for you.

The owners of Matahari are strong supporters of local industries and environmental good practice. Certainly it was one of the best, and most memorable trips I have taken on any of my trips abroad, and commend it.
