Still the best place to stay in Georgetown. Lovely welcome from the best hotel team in the business! The pool area is a cool retreat from the heat of the day and the ice cold Tiger beer is just great. Our thanks specially to Hanif and Ryan, well done boys, you nailed it again.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back of the hotel are quieter off the Main Street.

All members of staff were friendly and ever-ready to help, advise and answer questions, offer suggestions as to where and what to eat, or just chat a bit in passing... They're a credit to the hotel.

Breakfast spread was more than adequate and very tasty as well.

Room was comfortable and clean.

Location was ideal - on bus routes but not noisy. Also walkable to most places of interest such as the Peranakan Mansion and street art sites.

Quite a few good eating places in vicinity - from cafes and local coffeeshops to street stalls.

You can't go wrong staying here.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street side, although hotel is set back from the road and does not get...

Thanks to the staff and owners of this establishment, I had a great stay in Penang, due mostly to staying at the Yeng Keng Hotel on Chulia Street, Georgetown, Penang.
Ill be going there again soon, hope that they are still doing a really good job, it'll be good to be there again.

A very nice hotel no issues to report. This hotel has an interesting history of past use and development posted in the room. Property in well decorated and the facilities are maintained to a high standard (no mold to be seen anywhere). Reception staff very pleasant & helpful. Room had both AC & ceiling fan along with full opening window. Good size swimming pool catches the sun most of the day. Breakfast was included and the bar/restaurant menu was not lacking and catered for western & eastern tastes. Hotel has its own off road parking for cars & motor bikes.
Good location easy short walk to various bars, the Hop On Hop Off" bus stop, the Penang Mall & main bus station. I was able to extend with a better rate than available online. Grab taxi service can be arranged at reception.

Room Tip: This hotel is of a colonial style of architecture some people might consider the rooms on the small...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Yeng Keng Hotel is a 20-room restored heritage boutique hotel located in one of the oldest surviving and intact 19th-century buildings at the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage City of George Town, Penang. Like many of the other buildings in the neighbourhood, it was originally built in the mid 1800's as a private residence. The Anglo Indian bungalow belonged initially to Shaik Eusoffe bin Shaik Latiff an Indian Muslim family and remains unique in Chulia Street for not being relegated to the rear of a row of shop-houses blocking its facade. In 1897 trustees of the Cantonese Club 'Ying Han Pit Shu' bought the building on behalf of the association, later donating it to the trustees of the Straits Chinese Building Association in 1939. The building was later leased to Yeng Keng Hotel. The conversion from a residence into a budget hotel was the prevailing trend along the street at the beginning of the 20th century. Small places of lodgings that were conveniently reached from the harbour were in great demand as the traffic in the port grew. An impressive traditional Chinese entrance gate was constructed announcing entry to the 'Lodging House,' adding grandeur to the commercial establishment and to distinguish it from the rest of the buildings on the street. Conservation and upgrading by the present owner, Hoo Kim Properties Sdn Bhd, was undertaken in March 2009 with the renewed Yeng Keng Hotel completed in April 2010. ... more   less
