A taste of history

We absolutely loved our 4 night stay here. The staff are friendly and it is centrally located. Our room was very tidy and we appreciated the continuous supply of ice cold water and biscuits. I especially enjoyed the reading areas. We would highly recommend to both couples like us and families.

Minutes to everything in Georgetown is Yeng Keng hotel on Chulia St. Living abroad for 40 years, I returned to Penang for a quick mid-winter break and was not disappointed in the least bit. Busy Penang Road once the nerve centre of the Island is 5-10 mins walk (it still is a hive of activity!) Not only are the food choices too numerous to count but eateries abound N,S,W and E from the hotel virtually 24/7. At night, there is plentiful entertainment for young & old - pubs, bars and even the odd Jazz venue. Within the hotel, my room was beautifully appointed, ornate lampshades, TV with Netflix (not that I had time to log in!), fridge and the usual. A good spread of breakfast is on offer every morning and the adjoining restaurant serves excellent local (and for want of a better term) “Western” cuisine for lunch and dinner - which I did sample and can wholeheartedly vouch for. Staff service (saved for last) was second to none- Ian, Yeoh and Ishwary were always on hand and no request was too large or small. Overall, 10/10 stay is the least I can offer other than to say this was my first stay but it certainly won’t be my last. (Oh, and if you’re hiring a car… there’s even free parking within the compound - street parking is otherwise difficult to find in this area!)

This was our third visit to the Yeng Keng and the experience and service remain the same - it is awesome. The location on Chulia street is just amazing and cannot be beaten. The staff were amazing and go out of their way to help. We stayed in the two bedroom facility and another couple in a standard room and we were all very happy. Everything clean and worked well. During our visit there was a heatwave in Malaysia and the pool was a welcoming relief at the end of the day. Breakfast is not great and very basic, but good enough to start the day. When we departed to our next hotel we left an item behind and the staff went out of their way to have it delivered to our hotel - just amazing service. Will be back in Penang and definitely back to the Yeng Keng.

Room tip: There is parking at the back of hotel. This is a historic building and not a five star hotel, but the location and service make up for it

This hotel is great. It is very classic and in my opinion one of the best hotel at the heart of the tourist area. The hotel is small but beautiful and wild decorated. It's one of those hotels that other people want to come in and take a look at. When I sit out in the front courtyard, having breakfast or just sitting there, many other tourists would walk by would stop and take photos of the hotel and a few would even venture in to ask if they can look around.. The room is great, the staff is friendly, The restaurant breakfast is excellent. Although I did not eat lunch or dinner at the hotel restaurant, but I can see that it is always full with non-hotel guest coming just to have dinner there. Everything about the hotel is great. It is a boutique hotel. My room face the swimming pool area. I will recommend requesting the rooms facing the pool. The hotel is at the heart of the lifely downtown area. And from this center of gravity of the city, it is also just a short walk, about 15 minute walk to Armenia Street, another tourist attraction area. In summary, the location is great, the room is great, the restaurant is great, everything is great.

Room tip: Strongly recommend having breakfast buffet included

Enjoyed our overnight stay, beautiful, very clean heritage hotel, with just the right mix of peranakan furniture and framed photos that gave us glimpses of life in the area in the past. The staff, Yeoh and the team, went over and above, sorting out our wifi connectivity issues in the room. Eventually it was sorted but they upgraded us to the roomy Chulia Suite! They made the stay extraordinary, yes i would highly recommend staying here, very well located. The cafes and restaurants were just a few steps away!

Room tip: Parking for guests at the back of the hotel. The pool looked inviting but we didnt have enough time to enjoy the pool.

This hotel is located at the heart of the city. I walked to shops, eateries and shopping centres. No need to take taxi. There are dim sum restaurants nearby as well, abt 5 to 10 mins walk.

The hotel is also very near street food. You can walk to Chulia Street and eat the famous wanton noodles. The noodles are springy. I enjoyed eating the dry version.

Very clean hotel rooms with powerful air-conditioning and impeccable customer service. Shout-out to counter staff, Ian, who was extremely helpful. I enjoyed my stay.
