Minutes to everything in Georgetown is Yeng Keng hotel on Chulia St. Living abroad for 40 years, I returned to Penang for a quick mid-winter break and was not disappointed in the least bit. Busy Penang Road once the nerve centre of the Island is 5-10 mins walk (it still is a hive of activity!) Not only are the food choices too numerous to count but eateries abound N,S,W and E from the hotel virtually 24/7. At night, there is plentiful entertainment for young & old - pubs, bars and even the odd Jazz venue. Within the hotel, my room was beautifully appointed, ornate lampshades, TV with Netflix (not that I had time to log in!), fridge and the usual. A good spread of breakfast is on offer every morning and the adjoining restaurant serves excellent local (and for want of a better term) “Western” cuisine for lunch and dinner - which I did sample and can wholeheartedly vouch for. Staff service (saved for last) was second to none- Ian, Yeoh and Ishwary were always on hand and no request was too large or small. Overall, 10/10 stay is the least I can offer other than to say this was my first stay but it certainly won’t be my last. (Oh, and if you’re hiring a car… there’s even free parking within the compound - street parking is otherwise difficult to find in this area!)
