at the Miraku Restaurant at G Hotel. The food was average, but the service is excellent.
The price is not too high for a Restaurant, but we find at Sushi King a better selection and
the prices are lower and also the quality is even better. The only difference is the nice
atmosphere.

The restaurant is on the first floor of the G hotel .. it is decorated in the conventional wooden tables and shares often found in Japanese restaurants. There are 4/5 booth with padded benches which are a little more comfortable. The food is authentic and fresh and the quality is excellent.. there is a good selection of Sushi and Sashimi and plenty of grilles .. However for some reason I could only find 2 varieties of noodles on offer. The Sashimi was superb and so was the cubed beef. You will enjoy the food but it is expensive compared to other Japanese restaurants in the area. Expect to pay around 70 US Dollars for a simple meal for 2 with no alcohol or soft drinks.

My friend and I used to love this place for our lunch gathering. We love the ala-carte menu for lunch. However, during our reason visit, we tried their Japanese buffet lunch. Although there were many choices on the buffet table, I found that the food quality was not there. Despite this, their ice-cream was good.

We arrived about 12 noon so, we were in their first session of the buffet. The second session of the buffet started at 1.15 p.m. The waitresses were very polite and helpful at the beginning but as soon as our buffet session was over, they were very rude and asked us to leave although we had not finished our food on our table which we took earlier before 1 p.m. I would not expect this kind of service from a restaurant in a hotel. So, if you are a slow eater, better think again before you dine here. This would be the last time I dine here.

Yes, they have 2 seatings (11:30am and 2:30pm) and are also strict about their fine for wastage policy (RM10 per 100g), but the sushi counter quality food justifies their polices and prices. Priced at RM58++ for adults and RM35++ for children, there are quite a few gems if you are looking for an exceptional Japanese Buffet in Penang:

Temaki rolls made to order--about half a dozen including soft shell crab and negitoro. Very generous and crisp nori wrapper.

Negiri sushi with petite thumb size rice with large slices of fish draped over the sides--salmon, maguro, tai, squid (silky succulent), tako (tender octopus), hokigai (arch shell clam), scallop. Exceptional unagi and tobiko rolls.

My wife thought the salad dressings were exquisite with a lovely maki like salad roll.

Sashimi platter with salmon, tai, scallop. Both sushi and sashimi was frequently refilled.

The grilled salmon and Sanma mackerel were moist, caramelized skin and had an alluring glaze.

Even the tempura selection included lovely straw mushrooms.

Drinks were also self serve with green tea, coffee, juices and iced water.

The desserts were simple but amazing too. The green tea ice cream was potent with an acrid edge, the black sesame ice cream divine with pungent toasted sesame aromas, and the Annin Tofu and odd interpretation of creme brûlée texture, amaretto favors.

We easily surpassed the buffet price after the second plate of food. At ala carte pricing, the negitoro temaki being RM10 and 5 pieces of sushi for RM10, a large scoop of black sesame ice is RM10. So thank you, Miraku for the hospitality, great service, exquisite value, and relentless excellence and quality! We will be back!

Do call ahead and make reservations.
