Great heritage building and lovely rooms. The breakfast was excellent and the location in the UNESCO core zone makes this boutique hotel the perfect stay in Penang. Special mention for the staff: they are AMAZING. Thank you Roberto and Gadi!

Campbell House is a beautiful boutique hotel in a lovingly restored shophouse. The decor is gorgeous and eclectic. The facade does nothing to prepare you for the warmth and gorgeousness beyond those flip doors. Stepping inside felt like I have stepped back into time.

The check in process was pretty breezy but since I had been to Penang a few times prior to this visit, I didn't really need much information from the reception. The welcome drink was served in the Italian restaurant, Il Bacaro, located within the hotel. By the way, the restaurant is where your fantastic breakfast awaits you every morning. The staff here were prompt and friendly in their service. I had a dinner here on my first night and I have to commend the chef on the very delicious ocean trout and grilled cauliflower. I enjoyed every bit of that dish.

There are only 12 rooms in this hotel so expect the staff to know you in a more personal way than a big chain hotel. I like that the rooms are named instead of numbered. Every room has its own theme and is decorated accordingly. I was in the Peacock room and I loved it. It was inviting and cozy but roomy. My only gripe is that there isn't any body lotion and shower cap provided in the bathroom. (Little details like these matter to ladies.) The light at the doorway didn't work as well and the light above the mirror at the doorway seemed to have fallen off. Despite of this, it really didn't affect my enjoyment of the room much.

This hotel is also unique in that you have to remove your footwear beyond the stairs leading to the rooms, much like stepping into an Asian home. There isn't much TV on the cable channels. The only movie channel had terrible reception in my room. But the library on the second floor has an extensive collection of DVDs and there is a DVD player in the room. Depending on your visit, you won't be spending much time in the room anyway if it is your first visit to Penang.

Location-wise, the hotel is located within the range of yummy local food and delights. Everything within walking distance. The staff is extremely knowledgable about the area so definitely leverage on that.

Do note that the hotel has no elevator and is not accessible so it isn't suited for those who need help going up and down stairs. It is also not suitable for families with young children.

Thank you Campbell House for taking such good care of me during my visit. I had a lovely stay.

Location: Centrally located in Georgetown. About 7-10mins walk to Komtar bus station. 5-7mins walk to Penang Street. Good eateries around the hotel, like Tai Tong restaurant, a youtiao stall, good Wanton noodles restaurant nearby. Prangin Mall is also next to Komtar Station, offering local-type shopping merchandise. Area around the hotel also have quaint nice shops selling products.

Our room is on second floor and quiet even though window is facing Lebuh Cintra. In-room Wi-fi is good. Room amenities are standard and clean. Complimentary breakfast is very nice with different menus to choose from. We like the late breakfast timing (till 12noon), fresh fruits platter and the freshly-squeezed fruit juice, something that other big hotel cannot do.

Service staff were polite, especially Gary who recommended us a great Indian restaurant that have delicious nasi briyani, tandoori chicken, etc.

Overall, good location, friendly staff and comfortable rooms. Hotel have limited rooms which makes it not as crowded as the bigger hotel.

Cons: No elevator. Folks with walking up stairs to their room will be a challenge.

Dear Meerk_1

Thank you for your very kind review and detailing the great amenities that surround our hotel. We are glad to hear you managed to enjoy lots of the wonderful food on offer, we often say guests need to pace themselves and have 10 small meals a day so well done for trying so many!
Sometimes the small details are missed when staying at large hotels so we are thrilled to read you appreciated all our efforts.

We look forward to welcome you all back again in the future.
Warm Regards

Incredible charming and quite small hotel in an old and well maintained building. Everything was great. Extraordinary serviceminded and pleasant staff, very good breakfast with many choices in the nice restaurant.
The stay exceeded all expectations.

Dear xzoddvar,

Thank you for for the high praise we are truly grateful for such a wonderful review and appreciate you recommending us to the senior travelers thinking of coming to Penang.
We are often asked what type of guests stay with us and we can honestly say we have no type and no age specific, we have had guests from 10 years old to 85 years old enjoying their time at Campbell House and Penang, we just try our best to ensure everyone has a special experience.

Thank you again, with our best wishes

From the moment we arrived we felt welcome. A refreshing drink and helpful insights into George Town is how it started.

The staff were Great! Super friendly and very helpful.

We loved our room and the Breakfasts were so good that it made it hard for us to leave room in our stomachs for the Food George Town is famous for.

Highly Recommend.

Dear Mark H

It is always such a pleasure to read that our customers have enjoyed their stay and appreciate the efforts of our staff, we have a new front desk team so it's great to hear that they are doing well. Food is a big thing in Penang so we apologize for filling you up at breakfast, you will just have to come back again to sample more of the famous food that is on offer!

With best Regards
