Campbell House has won a swag of awards. Its not hard to see why. Great location in the heart of Georgetown's heritage district. The hotel is housed in a creatively recycled turn of the 20th century building (the only down side of this is that the accommodation is not suitable for people with significant mobility problems). The comfortable rooms are large elegant and furnished with an eclectic mix of antiques, reproduction, and contemporary items. Everything was made clean as a whistle every day. The staff, both back and front of house, were friendly, relaxed, and efficient. They couldn't be more helpful. The hosts, Roberto & Nardya, really have put together and trained a great team. The breakfast looked good, but most days I had already eaten in a cafe or kopitiam by the time it was served. I can tell you though that the plate of fruit their breakfast starts with was perfectly ripe every morning (not many places manage to get that right). I ate at the restaurant of an evening a couple of times and the food, wine, and service a was brilliant.

The hotel seems to be permanently full so book well ahead, particularly on weekends.

Oh, and I booked a taxi to the airport through the hotel. What I got for my 50MYR was a large, newish, and spotlessly clean car driven calmly and carefully. The taxi arrived 10 minutes early. I had plenty of time to catch my plane despite heavy traffic.

It's a clean adequate small hotel that is in a very good location.. The staff are friendly and professional. Their Italian restaurant is one of the best. Will definitely recommend this hotel if you are planning to stay in Georgetown.

Sorry for the very late review. I booked this hotel in August 2022 for my visitors from Italy who stayed there for 3 nights. I had to make an overnight trip at the very last minute to join them in Penang after listening to my visitors raving about this hotel.

I cannot put into words how special this stay was. This hotel is a beautifully restored piece of Penang history. It is so full of character; every little nook and cranny is absolutely beautiful and has hidden treasures. Each room had a different theme; my visitors were in the Calligraphy room while I had the lovely Opium room.

Our rooms were spacious, beautifully designed rooms with luxuries amenities and impeccable service. No other hotel provides a fridge stocked with a big bottle of iced tea, fresh milk and a little bedtime treat! The breakfast was lovely with a hearty à la Carte meal.

Location was excellent as it is centrally located in UNESCO-listed Georgetown, near Tai Tong and Chulia St. where you can reach most places in the old town on foot in 10 - 15 minutes. Big bonus that it is a short 4-minute walk to my favourite shop, Sam’s Batik House!

The customer service was second to none, the staff could not go far enough for us, and they were friendly and helpful. Always remembering our details and preferences was a lovely touch.

Campbell House definitely exceeded my expectations and it won’t be long before I plan another trip back. A special shout out to Kumar! Unfortunately we didn't manage to meet the Italian owners as they were away for a holiday in Bali at that time. Keep up the great work!
