Usually I like a bit of luxury when I'm away from home. You know, wifi, big bath, mini bar, thick rugs on the floor, room service, you get the idea.

But, this time, knowing a little about Penangs history, I wanted something a little different and found this place. what a treat. In fact, its so special, the area in now a UNESCO World Heritage site and right so.

The owner of coffee Atelier is a very nice guy, communicative and relaxed. The staff are just great, friendly hardworking and always aiming to please the guest.

The rooms, not sure if i can call them rooms, more like apartments really are just incredible, very colonial, a little basic and rich with charm. I fell in love with them instantly. It just very hard to discribe. The furnishings, the quiant wooden slide locks, the open air court yards and loo, it just oozed history and it was very comfortable.

Great coffee and breakfast next door and its brilliently located to the local food markets etc. We walk around the whole of Georgetown from here, slept well after too.

Staying with our daughter in southern Malaysia, we visited Penang and fell in love with its heritage and charm and character. This hotel was the perfect place to stay - sensitively restored, it offers a real sense of old world Penang. But as well as a wonderfully quirky building, there is a staff who made our stay special: suggesting what to see, where to eat, and arranged taxis with a friendliness and warmth that makes us want to return.

This is a quaint, quirky little gem with an nod to the colonial past. Our suite/room came with a four poster bed with full mosquito net, a separate seating area and a personal, remote shower room down a short corridor.
What made this special were the staff without whom it would still have been nice....but not personal. JR, Sol and Paul worked as a team to make our stay feel cosseted and special. They were pleasant, polite, friendly and quietly went to great lengths to make our stay memorable. They deserve to be highly commended and rewarded for their service and commitment. The location is central to the old quarter which makes it very easy to explore .

Stayed for 3 nights, but wish i stayed longer! Staff, service, location, food, room, etc. all exceeded expectations. Penang is a really cool place to explore, and this was the perfect place to stay. It's full of character, and staying here really made my trip feel that much more special. Also, the outdoor bathroom was really cool. I hope to visit again someday!

Loved our 4 night stay at Coffee Atelier earlier this month. We visited with regulars from South Australia and were not disappointed. The hotel has wonderful character, is maintained spotlessly and has all the facilities one could look for in a boutique hotel.
The staff greeted us like long lost family and Ruby, Paul and Sol were absolutely amazing.
Loved the big breakfasts (included) and enjoyed dining at the attached cafe. Paul makes the best cappuccino in George Town. Neil and Martha Lloyd
