After many months of waiting our favourite hotel is well and truly back. We were lucky enough to see the renovations in progress on two previous visits do we knew what to expect. Our deluxe suite is not vastly different from before which was a great relief, we didn’t want too much change. Basically, it’s been updated and modernised. Everything is new and improved. Now there are 2 TVs, better wardrobes, new even more comfortable beds. The sitting room has new furniture throughout . The bathroom is perfectly refreshed.
The staff are of course as always, polite friendly and extremely helpful. Internet has been thankfully been greatly improved and during our 5 days we had no issues whatsoever. The new restaurants are beautiful and have interesting new menus. New uniforms appear a little uncomfortable for the staff with almost floor length pinafores. I think there’s potential for accidents with these and I’m sure the staff would welcome slight shorter pinafores!
Breakfast was as always an absolute feast with so many choices and served by fantastic chefs and extremely attentive staff.
As much as we enjoyed our stays in the Victory Annexe, the Heritage wing is what the E&O is all about for us. The new renovations have brought us into the 21st century without losing the charm of the hotel's history. The designers, management and staff have really pulled it off and we can’t wait for our next visit

Room tip: They’re all good

After several previous visits over the course of 25 years we were particularly looking forward to our first visit since the Heritage wing was refurbished. Although there has only been minimal changes to the suites themselves, the layout of the bar, restaurant and lounge has changed significantly. Also the list of inclusions in the room rate is comprehensive and our particular favourite was the evening canapes and cocktails at the Cornwallis. After a couple of initial hiccups with the service, a word to management resulted in impeccable service thereafter. One of the doormen, Khaudari we think was his name, was outstanding. Car parking was made easy.

On our return visit after an eight day road trip we stayed in the Victory Annexe which was also great. We received a very warm welcome from Jimmy Lee. If your budget can run to it, we highly recommend the luxury of a Corner Suite.

We enjoyed eating at both Sarkies and the Palm Court.

Our visit reconfirmed the E&O as our favourite hotel. We had two wonderful stays which were made particularly memorable by genial mine host Christoph.

We wanted to stay in Georgetown but still have view of the sea and a swimming pool.
The 'E&O' met our expectations.
Our room was large with very comfortable bed and great views over the sea.
Breakfasts were great with lots of choice and you can either either eat outside on the terrace or in the air conditioned restaurant. All the staff were very friendly and efficient.
The pool is on the 6th floor of the Victory annexe and it was quite windy in the afternoons. However it was great to relax after visiting attractions in the morning.
You can walk to most of the Georgetown attractions from the hotel and get a rickshaw back if you feel tired!
Overall a great choice if you like the colonial style.

A stay in E&O hotel will take you back in time. Stayed by notable folks including Charlie Chaplin, it is a hotel rich with history and well maintained through 21st century. Many attractions eg first lift in the country, old cannon, art gallery, dome designed roof, oldest olive tree on the island surely impresses guests. Spacious victory annexe studio suite with balcony of Andaman seaview, bathroom is roomy with double sinks. Corridor is the widest ever seen.

Lovely evening meal with family. Went to the quieter restaurant by reception rather than the main one on the sea front. Food and service is excellent and presentation is spotless. It is more expensive than food you would you find on the street cafes but the ambience and setting is second to none. It's a beautiful and historic hotel.
