Going to The Owl Museum wasn't even on the plans.

My friend just wanted to show me Penang Hill. We decided to take the Penang Hill Railway. The cost of a return fare is RM30 for an adult foreigner. The ride to the top of the hill did not take long.

The cool environment was quite a refreshing experience. Despite the hot sun shining overhead, it felt pretty cool.

We walked around soaking in the surroundings - posh bungalows, disused cannon, and temple. After that, we went to get a drink. That's when we were accosted by people distributing pamphlets promoting 'The Owl Museum', while I was tucking into an ABC (shaved ice with flavored color syrups).

Admission was free on that day, since it was the sixth day of its opening. You can see pictures of some of the exhibits at http://goo.gl/oht4G. My friend especially loved the weighing scale with an owl-shaped head.

Don't forget to visit The Owl Museum when you are there.

On our visit this time we arrived at 11:30 to find that because it was not busy the train was running every half-hour but found out when it is busy they run continously. The new train is very fast in comparison to the previous one. Cost 30 ringgitts per person. Due to the rain and low cloud on this we could see a thing from the top of the hill.

This is the obviously one of the higher (natural) points on the island. So one would expect it to offer vantage views over the city/sea. Yes, you will see those.
The cable car ride up is rather fast, takes about 5 mins. And going down takes about the same time. The only option uphill / downhill, unless you are wanting to hike. Be prepared to jostle with the crowd in order to get into the cabin.
There is a mosque and Indian temple at the top of the hill, which might provide alternate sightseeing at the top. We viewed them from outside and that's basically all that we did.
This Hill is worth the trip for first-timers into Penang. Frequent visitors might find another charm to this place though.

Penang Hill is a must-visit site when visiting this tropical Malaysian state. The view at 833 meters above sea level is incredibly stunning! The ride a new 73Million Ringgit Swiss made funicular train is something everyone must experience. Visit my blog post entry with my post about Penang Hill and its newest attraction, The Owl Museum in Penang hill with this link http://docgelo.wordpress.com/2012/04/03/penang-hill/

Directions to get to Penang Hill -One can take his car directly to Bukit Bendera or preferrably take a 45-minute bus ride from George Town, Penang via Rapid Penang Bus # 204 and hop off the gates of Penang Hill funicular station or take a taxi cab from any areas in George Town which will be more costly of course. One may also take a 3-hour trek from the foot of the hill at Penang Botanical Garden or drive/ride a 4×4.

Round trip funicular fare for Non-Malaysian tourists : 30 ringgit or RM30 (USD 9.78 or PhP 421) and RM15 for children aged seven to 12. For Malaysians, the fare for a round trip ticket is RM8 per adult and RM4 per child aged between three and 12. Senior citizens and students will enjoy cheaper fares at RM4 per person. Train Schedule : 6:30AM to 9PM daily unless notified.

The Owl Museum, Open Daily 9AM-6PM. Admission Rates : RM10 per entry, RM 5 for Senior Citizen, FREE Entry for Children below 12 years old (as mentioned, we had no entrance fees because according to the staff at its gate, they just opened few days prior to our visit).

It's really a good place to escape the hot weather in Georgetown or other penang area.
Sadly, the train ticket is a bit overpriced for this. Foreigner needs to pay RM 30 for 2 ways ticket. It's recommended to go there at the night time, beautiful view of penang from the top.
Full of lights, romantic scene for a couple. Go little further from the train station [to the monkey cups flower direction] there's one resting area which has a better view than the area near station.
