This is one of those things that make the Armenian Street area a great place to browse. It's fascinating to read about the conservation history and this is usually quiet unless there is a festival. This is really beautiful.

Also known as “Poh Hock Seah”, Hock Teik Cheng Sin Temple is a hundred years old Chinese temple built in year 1850’s in Armenian Street. It was once the headquarter of a secret society called Kian Teik Tong. After Penang riot in year 1867, all secret societies, including Kian Teik Tong, were permanently banned. Poh Hock Seah then took over the ownership and basically inherited all characteristics of previous owner, except being a violent society. Today, the temple mainly worships “Tua Pek Kong” (God of Prosperity and Morality). It has a large compound and a double-storey building. Well-maintained with friendly staffs.

Close to the intersection of Armenian St and Cannon St with no entry fee and very friendly staff, this temple is not as large as some but is just as ornate. Apparently it was the headquarters of a Hokkein Secret society in the 19th century.
There's lots of intricate detail to study in the decoration which illustrates the amazing skill of the craftsmen.
It's a very peaceful place and a good escape from the hustle and bustle of Georgetown and well worth visiting.

A nice little temple off then busy street, right across from a truck of coconuts. Make sure you make even a small offering in the donation boxes to keep the historical temple going and read the big poster in the way in for more reference.
