G hotel Gurney in Penang is a large luxury hotel situated about 40 minutes from Penang airport north of the city on the coast. However the area in front of the hotel is currently being reclaimed so in the future (by the end of 2023 ) the hotel will no longer be on the coastal promenade.
I stayed there for two nights speaking at a major conference and found that the main room and breakout rooms were large, spacious, well air conditioned and there was an excellent provision of necessary materials. Catering throughout the hotel was outstanding and a colleague and I particularly appreciated the free flow dinner which enabled us to access a very full buffet and whatever drinks we chose.
My bedroom was large and spacious with a desk for working, conveniently UK sockets and everything else you would expect from a hotel of this standard. It was a shame there was no bath though, only a shower.
The outside large swimming pool was delightful – if a little public – but it was a nice experience to cool off and do a very small amount of sunbathing after a long conference day.
Reception staff, and indeed all hotel staff were courteous, helpful, and attentive. However, we became irritated in the restaurant buy waiters persistently asking us if we would complete their online feedback form!

room was clean and bed was comfortable. Breakfast was delicious so can let your travel feel relaxed
However the weather was hot and the air-conditioner was not cool enough. The hairdryer frequent malfunction may need to be replaced

Great hotel, great service, great location. I was here for a quick business trip and really appreciated the hospitality. The bar (G Spot) in particular was filled with wonderful staff willing to go above and beyond to make me feel at home. I particularly enjoyed getting to know Buma who was a very nice bartender and made one heck of a delicious martini (among other things)
