I booked this hotel for several reasons - 1) it looks great from the outside 2) it is within the heritage zone 3) near the bus terminal and jetty.
Good side - great location, easy access to other parts of heritage zone and buffer zone. Just a few good few minutes walk to jetty and bus terminal to catch CAT bus. I had a good room facing the pool. It was sunny and cosy. Love the big bed and spacious bathroom. Checked on the function room level (3rd floor) and found the original flooring and exposed beams charming and well kept.
Flip side - staff needs attitude adjustment especially concierge. The I-dont-care attitude was a put off. I asked for suggestions on where to have a quick lunch and an ATM, and he pointed to outside in a general direction. I think Google could have done a better job but since I was paying good rate, I was expecting a little bit more for my stay.
I came back from the hot afternoon walk and wanted to get a glass of the drinks at the lobby. I saw one staff was filling up the drinking fountain, and so I waited. Once done, he said, "Wait, I want to send this first", and off he went. I stood there, still thirsty as a horse....
Considering there are other beautiful properties with equally reasonable rates within the heritage zone as rivals, your property needs to be so distinctively different in your service to bring back guests.
