House keeping team is horrible!!! They didn't throw the rubbish in our room for 3 days, ball of hair remained in the toilet for 3 days, it means they never clean the floor in the toilet, dirty tea cup and never washed it, the sink is full of thick and black mould and stains. They only change the bed sheet and towel. What is going on in this hotel? Budget 2 star hotel is cleaner than this "Royal" hotel.

Stayed for 4 nights, rooms clean, comfortable and a good size. There seemed to be a lack of staff, but the staff that were on duty were very friendly and helpful. Bar/lounge was closed which was a downer. Swimming pool closed for maintenance for first 2 days.

Hotel in excellent area for exploring old Georgetown which is amazing

Another good stay at this comfy hotel. Rooms need a spring clean and bathrooms were a little grubby this trip. Shelving in bathroom needs a paint. Beds are hit and miss. My bed in room 429 had a huge dip in the king size mattress. Old and needs replacing. Beds in room 505 were better.
I do love the ambience of Royal Chulan Penang. It is close to my favourite Indian food and staff are obliging and very much focused on guest satisfaction.
I had to change rooms due to noise from a bar in Beach Street. Traffic noise from Weld Street can also be an issue if you live in a peaceful place at home. This was my third stay in five months and hopefully I will be back. Thank you for a good stay Royal Chulan

Room tip: Room 505 gets noise from bar until 2 am.

Very bad customer service from the front liners and housekeeping. Overall very bad experience. We asked for 4 towels since we have 2 adults and 2 kids. The first day we were given 4 towels. 2nd day, when we asked for it , the housekeeping asked why do we need 4. Isn't it in the record already? Furthermore the room was not so clean afterall. There were hairs on the floor from previous occupants. The pillow cases and bedsheets have stains.
We don't feel welcome at all.

Room 1 - Toilet is not cleaned thoroughly with PEE stain and water droplets on the floor around toilet bowl (god knows if it is just water or pee). Requested to change room

Room 2 - changed to room 2, carpets has wrappers around, sheets has particles and hairs, with black stain all over

Waited for 20min to speak to hotel manager and a long while to finally get a room changed

Totally unacceptable. Let you judge from the picture

Feedback given on our shortcomings are very important especially from our guests which can help us to improve and do better when it comes to service. Your comments about the cleanliness and poor housekeeping of the room have been seriously looked into and yes, there are no excuses about all these shortcomings. It is disappointing that we missed several opportunities to impress you and we deeply regret the frustrations that you endured as a result.

For your information, a thorough spring cleaning of the room has been undertaken to maintain its standard of cleanliness and the staff concerned who was in charge to clean and make-up the room has also been identified and the necessary actions and training have been given to ensure such situations do not recur.
