The 3 of us had a great time at Mari-Mari village. Our guide Carol was very knowledgeable and made sure that we had chance to see everything whilst keeping things interesting. The first house we got to was very busy so we skipped and went to the third house but came back to the first two houses once they were quieter. We enjoyed the demonstrations given at each house such as the rice wine and the clothing made of jack fruit bark. We had the chance to see the similarities and differences between the traditional tribal houses. The performance was very interesting and the food at the end very good. Well worth a visit and highly recommended.

Dear emilyhO5006HU,

Greetings and thank you so much for the kind 5 star review!

We are so happy to know that you have enjoyed the tour immensely and have learned so much about the five major tribes in Sabah. We always try to emulate the lifestyle of our ancestors in olden days as much as we could while also trying to make it a fun and interactive way to educate our guests regarding the melting pot of cultures we have here and reviews such as yours are the reason we enjoy doing what we do and what makes this whole cause so enriching.

We are so happy to find out that Carol did such an amazing job arranging the tour for your group as such that you didn't felt the tour was too rushed even though there was a significant amount of guests at that moment. Our team always tries to go above and beyond when accommodating our guests and Carol is the perfect testament to that! We are very lucky to have her apart of our team.

We hope to see you again in the near future!

Thank you, terima kasih, pounsikou.

I visited Mari Mari Cultural Village in July with 2 friends (3 girls in early 20s) and had the best time!!
We booked online the day before and made our own way there (using a grab). You can include in the price for 60myr pp. It took about 30 mins from KK centre.

On arrival we were greeted by super friendly staff and given a tour guide. Ours was Harif who was so lovely from start to finish and spoke in English for our group (i think they all speak in English or Malay?)

As we were taken round the village we learnt so much about Sabah and the culture. We got to try samples of food and partake in activities eg fire starting, henna, traditional dancing.

We had food included which was a buffet - vegetarian and pescatarian friendly. Really good food.

We had not organised a taxi back and our guide helped us organise this which we were very grateful for.

Overall, friendly staff, loads to do, really enjoyable experience. Would recommend whilst staying in KK.

This is an informative and interactive cultural overview of tribal culture in Borneo. The three hour tour culminates with a buffet lunch after opportunities to learn, view and taste the tribal cultures. It is a walking tour and some mobility is expected as one has to climb up and down from the various tribal houses. Our guide Zul was excellent and was from the Dusun tribe. Our tour price included being picked up and dropped off at our hotel in Kota Kinabalu (KK). The site is a 30 minute drive from KK. Highly recommended for those who want lots of information and experiences well organized into a leisurely 3 hour visit.

Dear Gerad C,

Greetings and thanks so much for the awesome 5 Star Review!

It's quite an amazing feeling to be receiving reviews like these that are so uplifting and motivating for us. It really means a lot when people gain something and learn so much about the 5 major tribes we have here in Sabah, we offer a interactive tour that's not only educational but you can also experience the whole setup of what the tribes were like and how they lived their lives as it was and as it is. Zul the guide is truly a gem in our group. His wit and knowledge always adds the extra in extraordinary and we're truly honored to have him apart of our team.

We hope to see you again soon. If you're ever in Sabah and are looking for something fun to do here, please contact us!

Thank you. Terima kasih. Pounsikou.

This was exceptionally fun. Dora my tour guide was an absolute legend! Super friendly and intelligent, as was everyone else there.
I learnt a lot about the culture, food, art etc which was extremely interesting. Blow darts and ancient trampolines!
Really well organised and I would definitely recommend if you have a few spare hours in Sabah or KK!

They are missing out on a trick by not having a great souvenir shop, I would have been happy to spend a lot of money on some authentic souveniers.

the best part of the tour was the way the staff interacted with the children in the groups - they encouraged them to take part in the pole dancing, the trampoline style house and sitting with the head hunters etc
it was great to see the people wearing their cultural dress and showing us how they lived in the tribal village
also we got to try rice wine and various tastes of the various foods they ate
overall a very good two hours spent in the village and the best part is getting a henna tribal tattoo
thanks for a great day - dianne (australia)
