it is always nice to visit local market. we have enjoyed walking along the stalls to stalls, along the river. fulll of fruits, veggies and fish...it was really fun to see them. there are many eateries & eat-in area, but we planned to have dinner at another place, unable to taste them. it was my first time to see 'umi budo' (sea grapes) here. in japan, it is eaten as sashimi, how locals eat it??
it is always fun to visit a market.

Check this place out for dinner! By far the star of the market was the BBQ squid. Ask for hot sauce with it and they will give you a delicious homemade version. I got back from KK more than a month ago and I am still salivating over the squid! Also try the waffles there. Too die for!!

The one i'm reviewing is the Sinsuran (Pasar Malam) night market that is right along the waters edge near the Hyatt Regency Hotel. This one ONLY sells food and drinks. There will be the unmistakeable smell of seafood grilling over open charcoals. THis is NOT the one inland with the TwinSky Seafood Restaurant.
We ate here all but one night because the food was so fantastic and cheap.
Most stalls were quite simialr and the prices were pretty much the same (MUCH cheaper than the TwinSky restaurant) and VERY fresh here too.
We tried 5 different stalls in the market and all were just as good as the other so i don't think you can go wrong.
As an example of price, one night we ate an entire snapper, 2 large prawns (almost the size of a crayfish each! They were massive and a main meal on theor own!), large plate of sauteed vegetables, large plate of fried rice and 2 fresh coconuts to drink and this came to about AUD$30
The only 'issue' is that you have to bring your own alcohol if you want to drink alcohol.

Been there many times, from bad to worst. By looking at the seafood displayed there, one can be easily duped into believing that this is the seafood haven, but after having your stomach filled, you know you've been conned! The big prawns were too soft and tasteless, means those were not from the sea as claimed. The fish ordered got a funny taste. And to make things worse, they overcooked every single dish we ordered, even the vege! And the price was exorbitant! The place was crowded, hot and smoky, the floor was wet and dirty. I would highly recommend others just come to see the seafood displayed, but for those who are really into the taste, just go to whatever seafood restaurant in the town, trust me, you can get a much cheaper bargain, much comfortable environment, and most importantly, much tastier meal with different style of cooking. And many are halal.
