We had a lovely stay in the junior suite at Shangri-la Tanjung Aru. Our balcony was enormous and faced the sea. We could see the sunset from here every evening through the tops of palm trees - beautiful. The suite was expansive with separate dining, living, bedroom, guest bathroom, main bathroom and a wrap-around patio.
Bedding was excellent and the shower was super - instant hot water, high-pressure. The jacuzzi got some good use too.
Not liking crowds we were happy to be in this wing of the resort and also grateful for the Horizon Lounge where we had breakfast, a light afternoon tea and evening cocktails, all with views overlooking the resort and sea.
We loved the spa on its own island - beautiful space plus well-trained therapists.
Also the Sunset Bar is a must, even if you don't stay at the hotel.
It's easy to do day trips to the marine park from the hotel as they have their own jetty.
We didn't travel with children but it seems a great resort if you have kids as there are so many free activities - countless slides and fun things in the pool, as well as snook ball, putting greens, and an enclosed beach area.
Sunrise breakfast at Sunset Bar is something special and the food at Shang Palace (halal) was delicious.
