I used to be a regular to this hotel. I even wrote a review about this hotel before and often booked this hotel that my family members name the hotel Stephanie's hotel because it was my favourite place to stay when I came visiting them. I hardly able to book a room here for pass few months and had stayed at Hilton, next door to it. But this time, I was able to book it last minute. As usual, I was excited to be back. But this time it was different. Maybe due to busy schedule of Kuching's city, rooms were limited and for the first time, I had room at level 2,next to a hall (luckily there was no event). It was smaller but was OK . The room had musty smell and I went out to buy room spray. Then the drinking water issue it was really unpleasant for me. I checked into hotel at 12am,tired and wanted to go bed straight away. Changed to my pj and wanted to have a drink before sleep only to be told I had to walk to coridor to get it myself. Jug was available for water refill. This was really unpleasant to me as I was really tired and expect a hotel like this to have welcoming drinking water. Mind you, the jug and boiler were half full meaning the water was from previous guest and that meant it wasn't clean yet. I understood the hotel wanted to be environmental friendly but this wasn't the way. Other hotels that practise no plastic bottles usually would provided sealed glass bottled that are refillable to ensure the hygiene of the drinking water and still save the environment. What GM does is purely not thinking through and others would translate it as lazy work. Anyway, I was only provided with soap, bath towels and shower caps. A used bar soap was still in the bathroom and I had to request for hand and face towels. Obviously, the hotel wasn't prepared for my arrival although I checked in very late. My last straw was that I wasn't allow to wear sleeveless for breakfast. For being so strict, I would expected the hotel to be up to its standard of service but no. From room wasn't well prepared, smell musty and expected me to wear formal for breakfast, I'm not returning to this hotel unless it was my last choice. I was on vacation and it was breakfast, I must be allowed to wear what is comfortable for holiday, not for lunch appointment or fine dining. I won't even book or recommend this hotel anymore for friends or family members. It is sad it is no more my favorite hotel as my daughter had good time here with us growing up visiting family members.
