The accomodations were nice (very comfortable and secure), both in the private rooms and in the shared bunks. The staff was very casual, friendly, and knowledgeable about the area. The location was perfect: a two minute walk to the waterfront, the grocery store, the bus-catching area (I don't know if it is officially a bus terminal), and shopping areas. My only complaint: the wifi was spotty in the rooms - it only really worked in the lobby.

Room Tip: The private rooms on the top floor feel fancy and are super quiet, with access to a cool indoor/outdoor shower.

When we stayed there was a European family staying. This affected our stay as they took over the living room pretty much all day and evening so no one could socialise there. The father was working on his laptop in there making calls, which used all the wifi signal and no other guests could get online. Their children constantly ran up and down the corridor which would shake the bed every time, we left as it started to drive us mad! Also there was a very sad sounding dog that whined pretty constantly from the alley behind the guesthouse, quite upsetting to hear.

That family aside the guesthouse was great. The walls are paper thin. I'm a very light sleeper, but was okay with ear plugs!

The man that works there is very nice and so helpful and friendly. We didn't really speak to the two girls that worked there.

Breakfast was good; coffee, tea, jam, butter and toast. Basic but free!
The toilets and showers were always pretty clean. The rooms were really nicely decorated. You don't get given a sheet, just some blankets which we didn't use.

It's in a great location in the centre on Chinatown, ten min walk to the waterfront and to the local bus st (where the buses for most the day trips depart from).

Washing and tumble drying of laundry was RM9 a load- very reasonable I thought.

The cafe almost opposite the guesthouse does amazing cakes and will refill your plastic water bottles for RM0.50 per 500ml.

All in all I'd stay again, the price was great.

Thank you for your honest and kind words of your stay with us. Our guesthouse welcomes people of all age ranges to stay with us and normally we have a very great experience when families are staying with us. We've had other guests playing with the children and what not. It is however every parents responsibility to look after them and make sure they don't disturb other guests, daytime is excusable as children will always be children. But there are limitations of course. :)

Our neighbor in the back alley, sadly enough got a puppy they won't allow inside so it was heartbreaking for all of us to hear the whimpering of that poor thing outside especially as me as a dogowner and lover have my own dog with me everywhere, even to work and hasn't cried a single bit. This isssue seems to have stopped now however as we haven't heard any noise, so let's hope that this puppy has settled to it's enviroment already.

This place is cheap, basic, but nice, clean and calm. In the centre of chinatown, a few steps from best Laksa in town and a few hundred m from bus station. But away from noise, so any chance to have bad sleep is from other guests, as the walls are almost from paper. One bad thing is that there is no storage place in the room.
You can prepare a coffee in the morning, sit on a terrace during evening, play with dog... In all not fancy, but efficient place to spend a few nights

Thank you for taking your time and submitting a review. We are a budget guesthouse and we have made Threehouse thereafter. It is a home for our guests and also me and the staff on duty and we all are responsible for respecting eachother with taking care of not being too noisy at night time. We are located in a topspot area but this area consist of several hundred year old building where they did not think of how sound may travel, but luckily we are on a side street rather than the main. It keeps it peaceful! :)

Threehouse is a well-located hostel in the heart of Kuching, very close to the waterfront and numerous coffee shops, restaurants and other shops. Every staff member that we interacted with was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The owner's dog is very friendly and also not intrusive or loud. Room rents are very reasonable and the rooms and most of the common areas are typically very clean.

Having said this, there are a few negatives as well. My bed was the creakiest I have experienced (this was in a private room, not in the dorm). It was so loud that I couldn't sleep comfortably because of amount of noise the bed would make every time I moved even a little bit! Our sheets were not clean, but these were replaced upon request. I have to say that the bathrooms and toilets were a bit disappointing. Although they were usually okay clean, most of them lacked soap or shampoo even though it is advertised on certain booking websites that the hostel supplies these in the bathrooms. Some of these cubicles were also very tiny to allow for a comfortable shower. The first floor also lacked wash basins so you have to go to a different floor to use one. The kitchen area was largely clean but we did see a few bugs here and there. Finally, while the rooms were clean, they were very small with paper-thin walls and lacked any hooks or shelves. The one side-table was almost broken, so couldn't be used either.

Room Tip: Some private rooms have windows while others don't. So ask before booking.

Stayed here for 3 nights in our own room. Very clean and helpful staff. The breakfast provided is very basic but the kitchen it nice and free to use at any time. Bathrooms were always very clean. Also did laundry and it was done on the same day. I would stay here again.
