Owner description: One day offroad adventures in the beautiful landscape of the Bau area 20Km from Kuching. The BAU HISTORY TRAIL visits gold mines, historic villages and caves. On the way you will learn about the local history from prehistoric times onward. The TRINGGUS TRAIL visits remote Bidayuh villages (real heads in the head house!) and a 60 minute jungle trek with knowledgeable local guides introduces you to jungle and farm. Depart Kuching 08:45 return 18:00. Both adventures include a Bidayuh style lunch. Finally, if you are looking for Borneo's famed biodiversity, you can find it on THE NIGHTWALK!

The Tringgus Trail is a great experience which we highly recommend. Spending the day with James (from UK) gives you a complete image of the Kuching region with a pleasant diversity in activities. This trip gave us the Borneo experience we were looking for. From drinking 'birds nest jelly' and lunch with locals to a challenging track through the jungle and an awesome cave. An absolute must-do when you are in Kuching.

We have only 1 full day to discover Kuching. After communicating with several tour operators, we finally decided to do the Tringgus trail. This is how James described Tringgus trail in his email "The TringgusTrail covers most of the good things about Sarawak in a day. Birds nests, markets, food, culture, skulls, jungle, trekking, caves etc.". I could say that among those "etc" were loads of information on the history and geology with some sense of humor. I think this tour is suitable for everyone who likes a mixture of everthing. Not only you get the experience but knowledge as well. It has been an absolutely wonderful experience and we are certainly looking forward to do other activities that Kuching Offroad has to offer. Cheers, James!

Had a great time out with James exploring the caves, the forest, the cultural homes and the markets. The best thing about this tour is the amount of detail and history that James shares with you, along with the anecdotes, some of them very crazy (dog's claw chewed from his Achilles heel by a witch doctor!)

James clearly loves what he is doing and lives every day to the fullest. You will learn a lot on this tour and you'll feel very much like you're on tour with the modern day Indiana Jones.

Definitely recommended and not to be missed.

If one is looking for an exciting and compact inside into Sarawak life, history and today, coupled with exciting exposure to local markets, head hunting villages, the jungle and caves and great interaction with locals, look no more....the tringus trail offers it all.
James and his team exude passion and lend to a very personalised atmosphere with clear commentary as the trip progresses. An excellent lunch in a country house in a village adds to the completeness of this trip.
Tiring? Yes but well worth the experience.

If you only have a few days in Kuching, take one of the Kuching Offroad tours. You will not be disappointed.

My husband and I did the Tringgus Trail tour and were blown away by James' expertise and his dry British wit. Not only did he know a lot about the history of the area, but he was very knowledgeable about the fauna and flora of the region, from the tiniest insects to the tallest trees and everything in between. His funny anecdotes were priceless.

We visited a farmers market and a birds nest trader in a Chinese settlement, had lunch with his Bidayuh friend Emma, who cooked us the most delicious vegan lunch with ingredients from the rainforest, had a tour of a headhunters' skull house that still contained several skulls and was used for festivals (before most villagers converted to Christianity), took a hike into the jungle to the Indonesian border which included crossing over rickety bamboo bridges and walking on slippery boulders, saw Indonesian traders/smugglers who had trekked 6 hours one way and met Bidayuh villagers. As if all that wasn't interesting enough, we spent hours in the Fairy Cave, where I easily could imagine James as Indiana Jones from the Raiders of the Lost Ark looking for lost treasure. We ended our tour with a visit to the Tringgus villages where we meandered through one of the villages and visited a boarding school for village children and children who live deep in the rainforest. I envy those wonderful and sweet children who are so free and can run and play in the village without constant adult supervision.

I highly recommend this tour to anyone fit enough to walk through slippery jungle and climb many cave stairs. Oh, and wear shoes or sandals with good traction as well as sunblock and insect repellent.
