“Great place to stay”
Reviewed 1 October 2013 via mobile

We really enjoyed our stay, the staff are lovely. Very friendly, knowledgable and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The only thing which needs improvement of is the cleaniness of the communial bathrooms. Overall a good stay

We ended up staying in Batu Bata for 7 nights because my boyfriend was sick and we wanted to make sure he got better before continuing our travels. So what we mostly did in those days was just relaxing, meeting people and exploring the city. And the best place to do this from in definitely Batu Bata.
The staff is extremely nice and helpfull. We even went out for dinner with them! The whole guesthouse has a comfortable and relax atmosphere and looks new en cosy.
The rooms are smallish but just big enough. We would advise you to take the room with AC (RM70), as we tried the fan room(RM60) for one night but could not sleep at all because of the heath.
The location is great as it is close to Merdeka Shopping mall, where we mostly went for dinner and lunch, and the waterfront. TOP spot foodcourt (a must go) is only 15min walk.
Breakfast is simple with bread and jam.
The only slightly little remarks are: We found some long black hairs on the bed, could be from the staff or the guests before us, just in case we used our own sheets, as we always do in this situation (which we noticed happens quit often in SE asia). And eventhough it all looks very clean we noticed that the toiletbin upstairs hadn't been emptied for 3 days. But apart from these little things everything is perfect. We highly recommend this place while staying in Kuching.

What a great spot! Totally central and all the facilities you need. Great balcony areas to mix with fellow travellers. Very helpful staff. Did I miss out on a free breakfast?! One room had the 7/11 neon sign right outside the window so not so good. The premium rooms on the second floor with no window were ideal. Good wifi and clean showers/toilets. Loved it.

Room Tip: Take the most expensive room you can. The street is not noisy.

My stay here was wonderful! its very easy to find (right next to the 7/11) down Jalan Carpenter (very vibrant street with a cool gateway on the way in). First impression of the guesthouse was very clean and modern with good wifi. Many choice of rooms/dorms with either fan or air-con. There is free tea/coffee, filtered drinking water and breakfast. You can also buy cold drinks and make use of the fridge to store your own milk etc. There is also an outdoor seating area to enjoy the sun.

These are all good points for any guesthouse but what really made my stay were the staff (and the people staying there at the time). The first night I (and some friends I made) were invited to go to the night market with one of the staff and her friends. It was a good experience and the night market was very food orientated and not commercialized as a lot of night markets are. After that we had dinner and went back were we all got some beers and exchanged stories on the veranda area.

I had not planned anything for my trip to Kuching but there were some great tours provided and the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful and soon sorted me out (as with other people staying who also hadn't planned anything). I did a Kayak tour were I also got to see the orangutans. I also did a climbing tour with one of the staff members Noh. It was a very challenging experience and I loved it. As the climbing tour was down at the Fairy cave you also get to go in and see that too.
Overall I had a wonderful time and would go back to Kuching just for the guest house. Never have I been made to feel so welcome and at home. 10/10

We stayed here for 6 days and found the staff very friendly and helpful, especially in organising trips for us. The location is great, as there are many cafes on the street and the water front is only a 2 minute walk away. The rooms are small and simple (choose air-con), but there is everything you need and breakfast is an added bonus. The only negative was the state of the shared bathrooms, as when the guesthouse got busy they could have done with being cleaned more often.

We also took Patricia's new Malaysian cooking class and had a great time, so would really recommend doing it if you have time. Delicious food!
