There was a glitch in the reservation process which was dragging and threatens to go longer than a week. Special mention of Kah Meng from the KL Reservation team. Once he got to know of the issue, took it up upon himself, provided an alternative contact that would reach him in case I had any further concerns or enquiries, promised to resolve it within half an hour and duly do so. He was also responsive when contacted for further enquiries or concerns. Solid service, kudos!

What I thought was not apparent was the meeting place. Was informed to meet at A’King Jetty Dungun prior to boat departure to Pulau Tenggol, which I though was too general. There was no landmark or individual or shop specified. Learnt during my trip that A’King jetty consists of a large open carpark area, some seemed row of shops and a guest house. Guests are to report to the guest house reception to register for the boat ride to Pulau Tenggol. Thought this should be stated as part of the travel information provided.

Tenggol Coral Beach Resort I think has the guest services on lock. They were brilliant. Also the most happening property on the island. It shares the beach with two other establishments which don’t seem to have much going on.

Upon arrival, was welcomed to the lobby area to complete check-in. During check-in, other staff were unloading and sending luggage to respective rooms. Check-in was a breeze and respective luggage was already waiting at the said rooms.

The resort staff was also welcoming, always smiling and effective. Their service felt personal. They had staff that actually went around reminding guests who they thought would be interested in snorkeling and reminded of the schedule, personally. Not announced generally but going around, even to the extent of searching you at your room just to share the information. There was a change in snorkeling schedule on the 2nd day of my stay. We were just finishing lunch and a staff approached us to inform that due to the receding tide, snorkeling would be organized much later in the day. This staff and some others were going around the dining room to personally inform guests who may be interested in snorkeling that day.

Food wise, there were free flow coffee, tea, bread, jams, butter and cereals throughout the day. One of my concerns staying at such establishments is going hungry in the middle of the day between lunch and dinner. I brought some snacks which I hadn’t had the chance to consume as the meals provided were fulfilling and the free snacks provided were more than sufficient. The food quality could have been forgiven considering that the resort had to prepare for a large group of people. To our pleasant surprise, the food was good and wholesome. Credits to the chef! The resort did not skim on quality and flavor. Service was also quick. There’s a sign stating to clear used plates and utensils after use. Turns out the staff were efficient enough to clear it out for you like in 5 star hotels once you’re done.

Had it not been for the state of the chalets, this could have been a 5 star establishment/ property. The settings are actually better than most typical island resorts on east coast islands. I took beach chalet and it was pleasantly spacious. The facilities inside were relatively in good condition and clean. The chalet is built of wood. The bed sheets looked jaded and the toiletry was minimum. Overall the rooms were basic, but sufficient.

Pulau Tenggol is indeed a hidden gem, one of the lesser known islands in Terengganu. The beach is almost private, the lush green forest behind the resort remained untouched and the water is as clear as it gets. It would probably stay that way in the coming years.

We were there for our dive course. We met new friends there. The instructor were very patient and nice to talk to. We sit together and chat every night. Food was nice and i don't really get hungry when i was there. The dives were very nice. Although we were stranded on the island for one extra day, but we were still happy to be there. The room was clean and the staff were very helpful. It feels like home to be here and i start to miss each and every one of them. Definitely will be back again.

Awesome Dive master & instructor especially Mr. Ben Tan & Guang Liang!!
Beach is wonderful and water is clear for fellow divers.
We were suppose to stay 4d3n however the wave out of the bay is strong. we extended our stay and everyone on the island take cares of us in their best possible way...
felt like family!
Foods are awesome too!!
definitely will go back soon!!

Room Tip: rooms further from the restaurant are quiter. good for those who likes to star gaze too!

Accommodation was really below par at this resort. The lights up the hill to the chalets were not lighted at night. The chalets were not cleaned properly. The bedsheets had stains on it on the day we checked in. No toilet paper in one of our rooms. The water in the bathroom remains stagnant on the floor hours after using.

Diving was not that great either. 20+ divers in one boat with only 2 DMs and one boatman. Scary thought as quite a few of the divers were newbies.

So for the price we pay for Tenggol we should just save up a bit more and go dive in Indonesia or the Philippines with greater comfort and personalized service.
