After reading some of the reviews prior to our holiday I was slightly concerned however had no reason to be at all!

When we arrived at Male airport we were met by a Kihaa representative. He checked us into our next flight and as it wasn't immediately we were taken to an airport lounge, which had snacks, drinks and WiFi. When we landed from the short flight we were collected by a buggy and driven a very short ride to the speedboat. The speedboat then took us to the island.

When we arrived early evening the reception was 5 star, we were checked in and shown everything we needed to know. Taken to our room and shown around. Our luggage arrived 5 minutes later.

Our room was lovely. The bed was very comfy. Air Conditioning great. Plug ins are provided for mosquitos and room spray. The room is cleaned twice daily and towels are provided for the room and beach. The mini bar is refilled once daily with beer, coke and Sprite. The Internet isn't great however better than we expected. Its more than enough for uploading photos, speaking to friends and family etc. The hot water in our room was yellow however when we asked reception someone was sent to sort this immediately.

The service is the restaurant is exceptional. You are able to choose where you sit and no priority is given to anyone for outside seating. Despite other reviews we did not experience any tipping for better tables. When we sat down we were immediately offered water and drinks at every meal. The food is great and there was always something we liked. We ate salad with every meal, drank the water provided and unlike in other countries we did not get ill once.

Every room is provided with sunloungers on the beach. We split our time between the beach and pool. You can always get a space at the pool or near by no matter what time. The service from the pool bar is amazing. Every drink that is included in the all inclusive is marked with a flower. Most drinks are included.

We did two trips, the all day snorkeling and the night snorkeling. Both amazing and we would recommend. During the night we swam with 8 rays. These trips were the only extras we paid for on our holiday.

We did a lot of snorkeling off the house reef.

The nightly fish feeding is worth a watch.

The island has two pools, one is by the non inclusive bar. This whole area including the bar and pool is such a waste. During our 10 days we saw a max of 2 people there at any one time. This area could be used so much better.

We had an amazing holiday and would recommended the island to anyone of all ages.

We stayed for 8 nights in a Garden Villa with pool for our honeymoon. The room was very spacious, also the bathroom. The shower was huge! As the villa is in second row to the beach and there are quite a few trees/ palm trees, we did not get much sun on our private pool. The water in the pool was also rather cool. Other than that we had a perfect vacation. The beach and the ocean are superb. Food was good, there was always a big choice, also vegetarian dishes. Especially the curries and asian dishes were very good. Staff was friendly and helpful.

The island is beautiful. It looks idyllic with a beautiful sandy beach and clear blue water. A personalised check in got the stay off to a lovely start. However it went downhill from there. We had a beach villa. It was a lovely spacious room, with a four poster bed and a high beamed ceiling. Two wardrobes meant we didn’t argue over space and the outside bathroom was spacious, with two showers, two sinks and a large free standing bath. Overall we were impressed with the appearance of the room. However, over the course of our stay the very poor house keeping service started to reveal issues. Instead of hand towels we were given face cloths to dry our hands on. A bar of soap was only provided when I contacted reception. It was not replenished when used up halfway through the stay. No service was provided one day and reception told me it was my fault for having the do not disturb sign up, when in fact it was on Make up the room sign. Housekeeping was light touch. Dirty glasses were left. Cushions on the day bed were left in an untidy heap, the net curtains were stained, the curtain pulley system broke and paint peeled from the walls. Our villa was on the far side of the island so a 20 minute round trip to the buffet restaurant. No problem for us but not ideal if you have mobility issues. As we were all over inclusive we ate all our meals in the buffet restaurant. The food was good if lacking in imagination. The service was poor. Tables were left dirty, waiters ignored you when arriving making no effort to prepare tables. Often we’d finished our meal before we were asked if we’d like water. The service in the resort isn’t all bad though. The staff behind the bar at the all inclusive pool bar were excellent, the massage at the spa was wonderful and the dive centre staff exceptional. The resort has delusions of grandeur outside all inclusive. The A la Carte menu offered on the beach has main courses at $40, the pool bar offers sandwiches at $25 and a banana milkshake is excluded from the all inclusive offering and costs $12. Add on 10% service charge and 12% tax and the cost is eye watering. For us the final sting in the tail was to be charged 3% commission as we paid for our diving on credit card. This was an extra $68 added to our already large bill. Overall the resort is nice but it needs to sort out its service, its villa maintenance and eye watering prices. Better to stay somewhere that costs more but where you feel like a valued customer. Kihaa does not care about its guests.

This island is 3 star at the very Best the island is a natural wonder and has so much potential unfortunately the service and food really lets it down. Its need some
Investment and staff training and this resort could be one of the best.

Positives

Beautiful beach
Great reef
Amazing views
Good size accommodation
Good bathrooms
Comfortable beds

Negatives
No leadership
Lots of “don’t knows” “blank looks”
Slow service
Poor “school canteen” food
Extortionate prices on the bar after the all inclusive stops at midnight
No beach bar as described
Slow slow service - despite island being virtually empty
Diabolical internet
An urgent need for staff training and guidance
Tv in room and they don’t work
Mini bar - contents of a beer, coke and sprite (that’s not a bar to me!!!)
Attention to detail across the public areas - bulbs missing and blown
No evening entertainment (only on non-inclusive bar where u have to buy drinks)
Same music playlist 24 hours per day!!

Ac unit noisey and barely works

Cleaner doesn’t clean bath. He Sprays air freshener, doesn’t clean the leaves in bath room, change bed covers. Drinks glasses outside room. No sweeping of sand from patio or decking. Leaves doors open to let heat in but doesn’t clean bathroom??
Shower leaks water from hoses.

Mini bar not refilled until you call up!!

Food, pretty much the same a lot of flies and no covers for salad or cheese just left open to flys.

No white wine for 3 days!!

If u want a table on the edge near the sea u have to slip the waiter money or they lie and say they are already taken by people at the buffet yet u see them come in 15 mins after you and give the seat away for the money.

Labels don’t indicates nuts which is a problem for anyone with the allergy

Luggage arrives 4 hours after you. Landed at male at 9am and was expected to get on the next plane at 2:30.

No food between 2:30pm &7:30pm snacks consist of 2 chicken nuggets and a spring roll @ 4pm.

Any payments by debit card incurres a 3% charge this isn’t just credit cards it’s all cards and yet not stated on any paperwork from the hotel anywhere.

We had a great experience at Kihaa.

Relaxing Environment:

As a whole the hotel was thoughtful designed. We liked the its traditional yet modern theme. There was always calm backkround music on that really added to the physical aspect of the hotel ( they could however mix it up a little and play a wider range of music. After the third day we were kind of tired of listening to the same songs on replay. Not a huge issue, but easy to resolve.)
The beaches honestly exceeded our expectations from the soothing soft white sand to crystal clear waters. Traveling to the Maldives for us was really about the beaches and Kihha‘s natural beaches really go beyond pictures advertising the Maldives.
The room was large, quiet, and had the 'postcard’ ocean view we anticipated. We loved the outdoor bathrooms with double sinks, open air showers, and deep bathtub.

Great Cleanliness:

The hotel / island was overall clean up to standards. We leaned that they actually sweep the beaches clean every morning!

Of course when traveling to an island you should expect bugs and rodents, but we were pleasantly surprised not to see too much of that. It was definitely a plus that the room was cleaned twice a day, once mornings and again at night. Coming back from swimming it was always great to have fresh towels.

Hard working & friendly Staff:

We could tell that the staff were really hard working people and did everything they could to make our trip enjoyable. At times they were difficult to understand or they did not understand what we wanted. I think there could of been more training and organization integrated into this aspect of Kihaa.

Activities:

I really enjoyed going to the fish feeding off the dock. They do it every other night at 10:00. We got to see lots of large fish, baby sharks, and massive rays! It was an awesome experience to go down on the steps and pet the rays. The Maldives has amazing marine life that is not to miss and kihaa is nearby to one of the Maldives‘ biggest marine life sanctuary!

We did the turtle snorkeling trip, which we would definitely suggest to other guests. Our guide was really friendly and well informed. We really appreciated that she pointed out where and when there was something to look at. We swam with thousands of colorful fish and and several turtles.

Our advice is take advantage of the included water sports, such as kayaking and stand up paddled boarding! It felt great to stay active on our trip.

Three other activities we can recommend are jet skiing to the sand bar, the private sunset cruise with sparkling wine, and the spa’s the full body 90 minute massage. Of course these are extra charges, but from our experience totally worth it !

Food & drinks:

When you are on an island it is important that you have a range of yummy foods and refreshments. Luckily for us Kihaa had both, even though one of their restaurants was under renovations.
The buffet had something different available every day. We really enjoy the pasta bar and grilled tuna fish. For all inclusive the food was up to our standard. It would have been nice if breakfast was only open longer than 10:00 am because we often slept through it. Not sure about other people, but we like to take advantage of sleeping in on vacation.
For Valentine’s Day we booked the four course dinner on the beach, it was exactly romantic and best V-day experience <3.
The pool bar was the place to be! We were a bit sad that the island seemed to go to sleep after 12 am. Nevertheless we enjoy many delicious drinks (with a generous dose of alcohol) and probably tried everything on the all inclusive menu. Food and drinks two thumbs up!

We were sad to leave Kihaa because we had such a great time! We brought home great memories and look forward to returning. We highly recommend visiting Kihaa for your Maldives experience.

Many thanks to the Kihaa team!
