In the 1920s this was the grandest hotel in Essaouira - since then its fallen into the hands of a brilliant but deranged owner who has done up the rooms in psychedelic colours - gold cornices, blue ceilings and red walls. It's like living in a Wes Anderson film - more Darjeeling express than Budapest Hotel. This could be one of the great hotels of the world, but at the moment it's incredibly dirty, run down and half the electrical fittings and plumbing doesn't work. The roof terrace is the greatest location in the town, but now full of broken furniture and empty beer bottles. A magnificent ruin - also very cheap, we paid 20 euros a night for a suite.

Room Tip: insist on a suite at the front - the rooms vary wildly in quality from the outright slummy to the weirdly magnificent

No frills hotel, which is reflected in the price of accommodation . We were asked to pay the full amount on registration. Good location and friendly staff but helps if you speak some French. Room spacious with comfortable bed but was cold at night . So asked for a heater , which made it a lot more comfortable. Also had to ask for towels and hangers for the wardrobe but again these were supplied promptly. Bring your own toiletries and be prepared to wait for your shower, as you have to run the tap for 10 minutes to get hot water. No meals provided but nearby café ( turn right out of hotel through gate and on your left) has roof terrace and good value breakfasts !

Had a good stay at this hotel. Had issues with communication as not May if the staff understood English. But were very helpful as booked a taxi for flight out. Was unaware they had a breakfast option, which was a shame. Location is perfect right next to the port all the restaurants and cafe and also within 2 steps into the medina!

i stayed in this hotel, however during my stay, a jacket and a t-shirt disappeared from my room, these things probably happen from time to time but the worst thing was I informed management they had a problem, his response was I left my jacket and t-shirt somewhere the previous night, essaouira at night in November is not somewhere you'd forget your jacket, never mind your t-shirt....there are loads of nice riads and hotels in the same location so my advice is to avoid this hotel

Staff - very friendly and helpful
Room - comfy beds, loved the decor!
Bathroom - not great and a bit smelly (we bought some incense from the local market to make it bearable)
Value for money - can't beat the price
Location - brilliant for the beach, transport & local amenities
Services - they booked camel riding, quad biking and a taxi to the airport for us - really well organised and picked up from the hotel
No food or drink available but this wasn't a problem - there are plenty of places to get a good value breakfast or you can just pop next door for a coffee

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front with a window
