In May 2011, we stayed for an entire week in this wonderful hotel, located in the very center of St Petersburg. You cannot get any hotel closer to the Hermitage as from this one, I think! Less than 5 mins by foot... The hotel is a little difficult to find, as it is located in the center of a courtyard. The former residence of the music-chapel of the Hermitage, when it was still in use as a palace.
Most of the very friendly hotel-staff spoke English. The rooms were great, big enough, as well as the bathroom. There was a rather small fridge. TV is Russian only, and therefore not used by us. Breakfast was served as buffet, a rather good range of various foods. Nothing special, but OK and always enough. There's a restaurant accessable through the breakfast-room, but I think this does not belong to the hotel itself. There's NO elevator, but the stairs are wide. All together, we (a group of 6) had a very pleasant stay in this hotel. I would definately recommend this hotel and I may return here in 2 years. When I checked out, the maid came running after me and handed me my necklace that I had forgotten on the bedside-table... isn't it GREAT ??!! Thank you Capella !!

Price and location are the key here! Beds are very firm - but like many in eastern europe. Rooms are Clean - modest but larger than many I have stayed in. Staff is friendly and accommodating. No elevator - so you carry your luggage up flights. Interior courtyard can be hard to find - but safe and clean. Suggest a small flashlight on winter nights. Be sure you identify the back entrance gate for late night returns but other wise you are in the center of the city and can walk every where! I have stayed here several times and use it for clients.

This little hotel is located in the center of the City near all major attractions and good restaurants. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is pretty good and overall the hotel is lovely and clean. It's good to stay there with friends.
However, there are some minuses: first of all is the quality of beds - they are not soft at all and they are not comfortable to sleep in... Second - it's noticeable that people smoke in the hotel, though it doesn't smell bad in rooms.
Finally, probably the most important: if you want to go out at night - be ready - the hotel closes its doors after midnight and even though you are provided with a key, this isn't the key for all doors.... It can happen that you won't be able to get in the hotel.... (but to be fair, I came back in 4 in the morning, and I thank god my friend stayed in the hotel and was really kind to come down and open the door for me).
Nevertheless, I may stay in that hotel again for one or two nights (just because of its price, cleaness, good breakfast and location)

OK, this hotel is in a small court yard, accessed through a passage-way, off a safe side street from Nevsky Prospect. But the passage-way cuts through to a steet, which you cross and you are in Alexander Square facing the Winter Palace!

The rooms are standard and clean and your are not going to have a great view of anything. They are newly decorated, clean linen and towels are provided. TV is OK and we had a fridge in the room. The price is great for a city centre location. Our only gripe - no wardrobe! We had to hang our clothes of a clothes rack!

Food in the restaurant was fine, with a buffet style breakfast. Don't expect American size proportions in St Petersburg.

Would we stay at Yards of Capella again - yes, without hesitation.
