We had a great stay here. Although to be fair the four flights of stairs to the reception may be an issue for some.

The staff were great, helpful and knowledgeable - good English and not afraid to engage in conversation about our stay.

Great location with several good Georgian restaurants over the road. The coffee and the beer at the Singer bookshop are also worth the time especially as you look out the window at the Cathedral.

Metro is close - although we walked most places with ease.

As to the hotel - amenities are in keeping with its rating. It is clean and well serviced. The bed(s) were comfortable and the rooms well appointed, although I understand in keeping with its eclectic nature the rooms are all different.

Highly recommended for travelers wanting more than a standard room and hotel experience. We stayed four nights and would happily go back - and recommend it to others

Dear Michael,
Thank you for your kind words! It was so pleasant to read your review! You left such a broad feedback, it's really usefull for travelers and nice for our staff. We appreciate your time anf efforts!
Indeed, we try to hire the best people for our hotel team, because we believe that it's very important! But we also don't forget to take care about other stuff, like room's quality, good breakfasts and location! This details may seem to be so small, but for you, our dear guests, coming from abroad and expecting to see something nice and new, it makes the whole holidays work!
We are very happy that you think that we are doing a good job!
We are looking forward too seeing you soon!
Sincerely yours,
Hotel Rachmaninov team

I strongly recommend the Rachmaninov Art-Hotel, also known as the Antique Hotel Rachmaninov. Wonderful location, very helpful, friendly staff. It's a quirky hotel, with art by local artists all over the hotel, including the doors of each room. Said to be where Rachmaninov lived and you can readily believe it. The place is evocative of the 19th century. The drawback is a long flight of stone stairs, quite wonderful to look at, but a workout at the end of a day of touring! Still, they lend an air of authenticity and if your legs are strong, you wont mind them.

Room Tip: WiFi is available but spotty.

The staff were amazing and very helpful. The location was fantastic - walking distance to the hermitage museum, the hydrofoils, great restaurants, etc. There is no elevator, only stairs - which we discovered is common in many Russian hotels. The entrance of the hotel is up about 2 flights of stairs. The hotel was decorated with neat art. The room was large and was a cute, older style. It wasn't super fancy, but it met our needs. We could hear traffic outside, but that's what happens when one stays downtown, near the sites. The breakfast had cereal, hard boiled eggs, porridge, hot dogs, cooked vegetables, pastries, yogurt, coffee and tea. My husband enjoyed it. I can't eat dairy, so I walked a block down the street to Starbucks and was able to get vegan breakfast and lattes. Overall, a great stay!

What we liked:
Absolutely great staff, probably the best we ever encountered during or trips - friendly, efficient and professional
Best location possible to explore the city
Parking in the courtyard
Rooms with A/C are available
Good breakfast

What we didn't like:
Third floor without elevator
Help with luggage is not available on weekends
Rooms are rather small and dark
Shower is very small even for a slim person
Price was a bit too high for the class of the hotel and quality of the room

Room Tip: Ask for the room with A/C even when the weather s cool. It can still get stuffy.

Art hotel Rachmaninov is a 3-star mini hotel in the historic centre of St Petersburg just behind the Kazan Cathedral and few steps from the Nevsky Prospect – the main street in St Petersburg. Main interest points: Hermitage, Russian Museum, Faberge Museum, Canal and City tours, shopping centres and restaurants - are just in walking distance.
The hotel itself has all basic amenities. Having experience with different hotels over the world incl. 5 stars – I would certainly recommend this hotel, because of its unique character. True, the rooms are tiny, you might have to jump over the bed to get your suitcase, but all this is compensated by excellent location, fair pricing and extraordinary common rooms. The breakfast room - with small balcony and the view to the Kazan Cathedral, piano, authentic furniture and oil paintings - is exquisite. The breakfast was ok too and they served decent coffee (espresso, cappuccino, Americano) on request.
In the corridors there was an exhibition of original modern art and installations and paintings on the doors which gave a wonderful feeling (especially compared to some cheap reproductions hanged on the walls of 5 star hotels).
There are some large rooms also but unfortunately these were all booked. It seemed that this hotel is very popular and almost full-booked.

Room Tip: Try to get a larger room

Dear Sakilla!
Yes, we are indeed very popular so the next time you plan to come and visit us, please make a reservation in advance so that we could give you the best room we have - Rachmaninov room, a huge beautiful room with a cabinet, its own balcony and amazing furniture from Nabokov's family. We are sure you will be impressed even more!
