We stayed in shangri-La Xian for 9 days. It's not a short stay, thus we spent a bit of time researching. We are glad that we made a good choice.

The hotel itself is something that you would expect from shangri-La. Great location and nice Oriental decor. What makes it excel is the service. We used the club lounge everyday during our stay because the staff there just make us feel so much at home! They are super friendly and attentive. We are traveling with kids. They just love the ladies there so much that they asked us to head back to the hotel during our visit to Terra Cotta warriors! Many thanks to Sherry, Vivian, Isabella, Maggie, Jason, Emma and all the staff there. You guys are superb!

My 8yrs old son actually wrote a complimentary letter to the hotel staff as attached :) He gave 6/6 stars rating. ( Although he said the room is small but it's actually pretty spacious, he was comparing that to the Phuket Villa that we went couple months ago)

My family (wife and 11-year old daughter) spent time in Xi’an recently and stayed at the Shangri-La Hotel Xi’an. The Shangri-La delivered what it promised.

The hotel is very nice. The lobby is beautifully decorated and the staff is professional. We booked a room on the 18th floor with access to the executive lounge on the 19th floor, and the members of that team were extremely nice and service-oriented. The food choices were good, especially the choices for breakfast. My wife and I had the opportunity one afternoon to speak with one of the managers, Ms. Scarlette Ma, while in the executive lounge. We found her to be very energetic and eager to receive feedback. Many hotels want you to tell them how great they are. In contrast, I felt that she genuinely wanted constructive feedback on the services of the hotel.

One of the more outstanding features of our stay was our tour of The Museum of Qin Terra-cotta Warriors. We booked the tour through the hotel to avoid any scams. Originally, we thought the price was going to be significantly higher than the independent companies, but it turned out not to be that much more, considering the level of service and the assurances that come with booking through the hotel. The tour was exceptional, so the extra few dollars were worth it.

Our tour guide was Penny Wang. Penny met us in the lobby at 8:00, and had arranged for us to ride in a very comfortable SUV. Penny’s English was well beyond satisfactory. We communicated perfectly. She is very knowledgeable and knew how to convey just enough information to guide us without providing an overwhelming amount of history. Some guides can go too far in this direction.

Seeing the warrior sculptures was an amazing experience for all of us. Having Penny supplement our knowledge of the history of Xi’an, the warriors, Chinese culture, etc., was very meaningful. Following the visit to the museum, we enjoyed a Chinese Tea Ceremony at the Museum Tea House, during which we also had a lunch of locally, hand-made noodles called “biang biang.” You can also order other dishes (e.g., chicken and vegetables). The tea ceremony and lunch were reasonably priced and quite tasty. On the way back to the hotel, we visited The Tang Art museum. The artwork was interesting, our guide (Wella) was quite intelligent and nice, and we had an opportunity to learn and actually practice some basics in Chinese calligraphy by brush pen. It was lots of fun!

We were back in the hotel lobby by 3:30, after a great day thanks to Penny and the Shangri-La Hotel.

Finally, but not unimportantly, the rooms were very clean and the beds were comfortable. There’s a ping pong table in the fitness center that my daughter and I enjoyed. For those interested, the hotel is very close to the 3-line metro station “Keji Lu.” We arrived in Xi’an by train (Xī'ānběi Zhàn, which is Xi’an North Station), and decided not to take a taxi to avoid a long ride in traffic. We found the 2-line Metro stop “Beikezhan” (the beginning of the 2-line) quickly. We took the 2-line to “Ziaozhai,” and transferred to the 3-line heading to “Cepocun.” The trip took 30 minutes. If you do this, take Exit A at Keji Lu, and when you come up the stairwell, turn and walk in the opposite direction. The Shangri-La is about a 6-minute walk and it’s across the street. You will see the building after a couple of minutes of walking from the metro stop.

Whenever I have another opportunity to visit Xi’an, I will definitely make the Shangri-La my first choice.

I stayed here overnight on transit by train to Luoyang. I enjoyed the Chinese restaurant which had varieties of Chinese dishes from different provinces, so if you can't take spicy food, there is still plentiful of choices in the menu.

The staff are very friendly and helpful with good command of English.

I arranged through hotel concierge a private tour to visit the Terracotta Warrior site and drop off at the train station.
It was well organised with a private guide who was very knowledgable and spoke English well.

As the overnight stay was too short, I will plan for return trip in future.
