The Peace Memorial Park is an important and well-preserved area from WWII. They have chosen not to restore the district that was lost with the atomic bomb and have instead chose to build and maintain memorials for the destruction and harm the atomic bomb did.

On the island there are a number of interesting exhibits that are free or very inexpensive to visit including the Peace Memorial Hall, Peace Memorial Museum, Flame of Peace, Atomic Burial Mound and Children's Peace Monument. Across the river on the northeast side you can see the Atomic Dome.

Some of the memorials are quite sad and in particular the thousands of cranes children from all over the world have made in memorial of Sadako. The mound itself hosts a yearly memorial where all religious denominations attend for peace purposes.

The most interesting thing we saw was the Peace Memorial Hall which was free to enter and has a very accessible information centre where you can read about the survivors and victims of the atomic bomb and the aftermath. In some areas photographs are not permitted out of respect so be mindful when visiting.

The area is quite walkable but there are a number of busses and trams that frequent the area. We spent a few hours here and if you have the interest and time you may choose to do the same. We would recommend wearing good shoes in this area as there is more to see beyond the Peace Memorial Park including the hypocenter monument and Hiroshima Castle. In the area to the east there are a number of good cafes and restaurants.

To understand what happened and specific the impact this bomb has had years after it was dropped. The way this is representeren on the peace boulevard is impressive, visit the memorial building this made the biggest impression. The museum is definitely worth to visit as well.

The park had a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere. The weather was sunny and warm. The natural surroundings were well-maintained with colorful flowers.

I find that this is a rather sad place, but very worthy of a visit to see what human beings can do to each other. Thousands of innocent civilians killed in an instant. I like how they preserved the history and how they told the stories. Beautiful place in a sense.

Despite the tragic reason for this park, the city has turned it into a park where there are many monuments with good information, plenty of trees and a very pleasant place to visit.

There are a lot of people visiting, we were there in the busy summer, however because the park is well set out, it did not feel busy and we had plenty of time to read, take photos and search for the next monument.

Well work a visit. If you have 2-3 hours you can explore yourself.
