It may or may not have been one of the best meals I've eaten in a restaurant, but it
certainly was excellent and memorable. The ambience, friendly attention of the staff (despite reduced skills in English) and food were excellent. This is a restaurant for adults who appreciate fine dining; the presence of kids looking for pizza or whatever could have been unsettling for other customers. Note to the reviewer who walked 45 minutes to get to Misato: it is a 5 - 10 minute casual walk from the Gojo subway station. I endorse all the comments of Southaustinfoodie in her review, as I was part of her party that evening.

Great place, we had the seats overlooking the kitchen. Chef really knew what he was doing. Good value for Kyoto. We had delicious gulash and a dish with slices of beef with rucola and parmezan. Even got an appetizer as a surprise. Although staff did not understand English very well they were really nice.

We recently stayed in an apartment just a few blocks away from Misato. We had read it was an old machiya, or tea house, that was converted to a modern business. The place is wonderful. On a Thursday night, they were not very busy, and immediately welcomed us in. The service and the food was wonderful. It started with a sardine appetizer, followed by a modern caprese salad with a hint of mint. I had the carbonara, which is always a favorite of mine, and this was outstanding. The main courses were all smaller portions, but the pasta was cooked perfectly al-dente.

This is a fine-dining Italian spot with Japanese influences; this is not a kid and pizza joint that another writer has criticized them for. If you appreciate good food and service, and are looking for an alternative to traditional Japanese fare, this is an excellent option. Glad we found it!

We walked all the day through Kyoto and desired to eat an Italian fusion food. We walked with our two children 45 minutes to go to this restaurant. At our arrival there were 2 empty tables but none for us.... Our kids were not welcome.
So chocking!!!! So no idea if it's good or not but sure if you come, come without your kids.

Thank sushirose
