Tucked at the end of an alley Hiro was a recommendation from a local friend. It didn't disappoint. I think I finally understand the fascination with wagyu beef. It was twice the price of many of the other cuts but in retrospect I wish we had ordered more. We had 5 meat dishes for 2 people which was more than enough. 2 drinks and the bill was about 10,000 yen. not bad at all

Recommended to me by a local colleague.

There's a whole page just for offal, some of which is good value, others just interesting to try, but felt too chewy or required very long grilling...

Wagyu rib (3-*), heart, tongue (thick sliced), and large intestines were the table favourites. We had a private room, and 4 kids (1-7 yrs old) occupied themselves grilling, eating, and hanging out around the seating platform, drawing, etc.

Really good ventilation, as the tiny room did not get smoky or too smelly...

It was my first yakiniku experience, so it was pretty exciting. Tables here have built-in charcoal grills, where you grill the meat served raw and cut into small pieces (you can choose between soy sauce marinate and plain salt). The wagyu beef filet was really outstanding and totally worth the money! Portions are pretty small, so I recommend ordering two per person.
A tip on how to find this place: it's on the corner of Kyamachi st. and Aneyakoji st., the entrance is from Kyamachi into a little alley; the sign on top of the alley (the Japanese name of the restaurant) resembles number 34.

Living in HK, it's hard to find quality meat. In our trip to Kyoto our first meal was at Hiro. Amazing meats at a very affordable price. You will not have to sacrifice quality. Great all around value.

I would like to call out our waitress Stella Yoon for making it an even better experience. She speaks great English and takes the time to explain things so that you enjoy your meal the way it's intended to be. Thanks Stella!

If you are in Kyoto and love meat, then this is the right place for you.
