The house is stylish and comfortable. It easily accommodated our group of 6 adults and 3 children. Two of the bedrooms are western style, and two are traditional tatami rooms. The children really loved spending the night in the tatami rooms. We also enjoyed the residential location, which is quiet but very close to many of the major sites and neighborhoods. Overall, we would highly recommend this house for your stay in Kyoto.
This Machiya is close to everything. Just a few steps from Tofukuji station, bus stop, supermarkets and restaurants. There is bread bakery restaurant on Main Street opens 7:30 in the morning.
About the house, what more can I say, it’s perfect. It’s home way from home. The owner Patrick and Akiko San puts lots of details on the house; decorations, furnishings and amenities. Whenever I stay in Kyoto, I would stay in there Machiya. This is my third house that I stayed so far.
Whenever you need help they’ll respond very promptly. They are definitely a super host and hostess. I would stay in there Machiya again and again in the future to come.
This house is a short walk from the Tofukuji Station - one train stop from the main Kyoto station. The owners provided meticulous instructions for how to find the house that is hidden away on a quiet street.
Everything in the house was exactly as promised. The floor plan in the description was very helpful. All the appliances worked well.
Nice decorated house with spacious 4 rooms, can cater up to 10 pax. Good location, 4 stops from city centre, walking distance from train station. One big supermaket nearby, you can find almost every thing you need in the kitchen. My hubby and both our parents had a good time there.
We were a group of 6 Australian retirees and, for something different, we decided to rent a house in a suburb in Kyoto, living among the locals. We loved the Samurai machiya and, although we caught a taxi from the train station when we arrived, we were confident enough to catch the train to Kyoto Station when we left. Great location!
The house was very comfortable and fairly well appointed but the dishwasher and sink area were very small for the number of people the house could hold. We ate in a number of nights and were grateful the supermarket was only 3 minutes away.
Thank you Akiko for always answering our questions so promptly and with such patience. We would thoroughly recommend this delightful culturally decorative home away from home.
