Owner description: Come and visit Lazat Malaysian Cooking School and bring back an authentic taste of Malaysia! Our hands-on cooking classes are held Monday to Saturday and presented in English by entertaining Malaysian instructors. We are located just outside Kuala Lumpur city centre and our school is furnished with purpose made demonstration tables and individual cooking stations. Each day of the week we teach a different ethnic menu and provide detailed explanations of ingredients and cooking methods. Students individually prepare their own 4-course lunch, usually consisting of an appetizer, main course, side dish and dessert. Malaysian cuisine is a unique fusion of Malay, Chinese, Indian and Baba-Nonya flavors, drawing upon our country's rich history as an historical crossroads for explorers and traders from around the globe. At LaZat our goal is to bring Malaysian cooking to the world by sharing with you our family recipes, which we have savored and perfected over generations.

“Fabulous cooking experience with happy enthusiastic Ana”
Reviewed 12 March 2016

I chose this cooking class by checking out previous TA reviews and was very happy to have chosen this one. From start to go, the group of 14 were entertained and assisted by Ana, Bie & Harjet (sorry). The market trip was an eye opener, and much cleaner than wet markets that I've seen in the past. Little samples along the way were always welcome, and a pleasant surprise. The setting for the cooking class was in a beautiful authentic Malay house (kampung?), on the edge of a jungle. Every care was taken to make our day special and Ana's care and enthusiasm was catching. The house is set up very well for cooking, with every effort made to keep us cool in the humidity...even cold towels for our necks. At the end of the day, we feasted on fabulous Beef Rendang, Prawn fritters, cucumber & coconut cooked salad and delicious coconut balls. I don't think I'll be eating tonight:) Thank you Ana and all your wonderful girls.

“Excellent cooking class in amazing surroundings”
Reviewed 28 February 2016 via mobile

We had a fantastic time. The venue is a traditional Malay private house in the hills just outside KL. such a peaceful location surrounded by jungle with the high rises buildings of KL on the horizon. Food wise we chose the Malay classic lesson - the tuition was friendly, very informative and fun. We cooked and ate so much we didn't eat for the rest of the day. The dishes were delicious. Thanks Sadiah!

“Must try ”
Reviewed 20 February 2016 via mobile

Very good experience ! The wet market tour was an eye opener. And Ana , the guide and cook , is friendly and passionate about cooking . Everything she cooks , she makes it from scratch.

Very different from the conventional cooking class. She really teaches step by step , and you do your own pounding and cutting .

Do go for this cooking experience and it will be a memorable part of the trip . Highly recommended !

“Delicious and fun!”
Reviewed 16 February 2016

After two and a half years of living in Malaysia I finally made it to Lazat for the Classic Malay menu and it was well worth the wait. I enjoyed every minute of it as did my mum who is visiting with us.
Even though the tour started at a market I know well I still learnt a lot from Ana especially regarding some of the fresh vegetables and salads used in Malay cooking along with the heritage of some of the Malay food I enjoy.
The class itself is held in a peaceful and beautiful house with the jungle just outside the kitchen windows.
The kitchen is clean and well equipped and Ana and her staff are friendly and eager to make your visit, and food, a success.
It was a hot day and we were greeted with a refreshing cup of ginger and lemongrass tea with a snack of tempe before we started to cook.
The cool towels provided throughout the cooking were also very welcome and a thoughtful touch.
If you have any interest in cooking or you are curious about Malay food and culture then this is definately a great way to spend the day.
