Owner description: Come and visit Lazat Malaysian Cooking School and bring back an authentic taste of Malaysia! Our hands-on cooking classes are held Monday to Saturday and presented in English by entertaining Malaysian instructors. We are located just outside Kuala Lumpur city centre and our school is furnished with purpose made demonstration tables and individual cooking stations. Each day of the week we teach a different ethnic menu and provide detailed explanations of ingredients and cooking methods. Students individually prepare their own 4-course lunch, usually consisting of an appetizer, main course, side dish and dessert. Malaysian cuisine is a unique fusion of Malay, Chinese, Indian and Baba-Nonya flavors, drawing upon our country's rich history as an historical crossroads for explorers and traders from around the globe. At LaZat our goal is to bring Malaysian cooking to the world by sharing with you our family recipes, which we have savored and perfected over generations.

“Best cooking class in SEA! - Beef Rendang: Authentic Malay Course”
Reviewed 16 April 2017

I've been taking cooking classes during my travels and this is my 10th cooking class in Southeast Asia. I have to say out of all of them this was my favorite! I've been on many market tours, but I learned a few new things on this tour that I haven't learned in past market tours, like how to pick fresh fish and the difference between 2 grates of coconut.

A true foodie, I loved learning how to make Beef Rending. My teacher Saadiah was amazing. She took us through step by step and showed us some fun and useful techniques. She even taught us how to say "thank you" and "you're welcome" in Malay by breaking it down in terms we would know. 'Tear - My - Car - Say' and 'Summer Summer' :) She was absolutely a delight to learn from.

What really set this class apart from other classes I've taken is during the market tour we had a small breakfast of traditional roti and tea. Then during the class we were served a traditional Ice Kacang. Such a special treat! You won't go hungry during this class!

Overall, just an amazing day. And even though I was there 8am to 3pm, it went by way too fast. Thank you Saadiah, Ana & team for a wonderful day!

“Amazing experience ”
Reviewed 13 April 2017 via mobile

I just spent the day with the staff at LaZat. We had a wonderful time. I attended with 5 friends and we were picked up at 7:20am and did not finished until 2:30pm. We were told that we would be done by 12:00pm. Either way, they asked if we were in a rush and we said no. We had an amazing time and all of us feel like we can make any of the dishes on our own. Ask for Saadiah!! She's amazing.

Awesome experience.

“Fun and informative cooking class”
Reviewed 12 April 2017

I have done two classes this week, Monday and Wednesday mornings. Pick up went very smoothly and we went straight to the market where we were met one day by Laty and the other by Anna. We had a lovely breakfast of roti having watched it being made and then walked around looking at the various foods and learning about them. Then on to the school - a charming old Malaysian house set in jungle with birds and monkeys around. The class was run in an open kitchen which is very well set up. The teaching was great, well explained and very hands on. We ate a little as we went along but we finished by eating our main dish around the dining table. We were provided with a booklet with all the day's recipes in. We learned a lot about traditions and culture and then returned to our hotels. There were 5-6 people each time, all of us from different countries. Make sure that you are very hungry before you start as by the end you will feel as if you never want to eat again!!

“Fantastic hospitality, food, setting and recipes!”
Reviewed 12 April 2017 via mobile

An unforgettable day starting with a traditional breakfast at the markets and tour of stalls, including rainforest fruits and the spice lady, and then to the cooking school set in wonderful rainforest surrounds with the friendliest team teaching us traditional cooking techniques from across Malaysia's cultures. The warmth, skill and knowledge of Saadiah, Raji, Laty, Ana and the rest of the team made it a very special day indeed - definitely recommend it as a day well spent in KL!

“Such a fun Experience”
Reviewed 3 April 2017 via mobile

Our first day in KL was spent at Lazat cooking school and we couldn't have asked for a better way to start to our two week holiday. Laty took us through the local market prior to the class and shared interesting cooking tips , introducing us to the local spices and various vegetables that the locals cook with. Lazat cooking school was situated in the lush green surroundings just outside the city. It was a treat to see authentic Malaysian local houses, thus the setting for the cooking class added to the charm.

We were met by the lovely Ana, who welcomed us and made us feel at home in the quaint kitchen equipped with all the essentials that our cooking instructor Sadeeah, took us through step by step.

The entire experience was fun, easy to follow, informative and well worth it. The cooking secrets and methods were a treat to learn... from how to use a knife to slapping about the dough in the art of making too to We loved every minute!!!

When we sat down to enjoy our lunch that we made, Ana shared her countries culture and traditions stories... all which added to the charm of learning not only about Malaysian cuisine but Malaysian lifestyle.

Will highly recommend Lazat cooking school for an authentic Malaysian experience by locals!!!
