After a relatively stressful drive through KL traffic, stepping into Shang's lobby was a welcome respite. Even tho' the lobby was busy, ppl moved about calmly, no screaming or yelling of any sort. Popped up to my room on the 16th floor which was at very end of the corridor yet assuredly close to the fire escape. Big bathroom with plenty of towels & nice-smelling stuff, big cabinet housing big tv & tea/coffee making facilities, fridge, etc. Lotsa doors & drawers for exploration. After removing the 5 or 6 decorative cushions (not that they weren't comfy) from the bed, the 4 elongated pillows were ready for heads to be set on. Big safe was a change as most places had tiny ones sufficient for purses, keys & passports only.
A large health centre on 2nd floor for those wanting to work out every part of their bod, with an electronic scale smart enough to print out a wellness score. Jacuzzi/hot pool, refreshment room (fruits, tea, coffee, milo) to wind down with a book. Outdoor pool (adult and kiddie) surrounded by cabanas which looked like 4-poster beds and tie-back curtains. Perfect to enjoy a meal, read or snooze. Shang's the place to visit and re-visit for me, esp. for those cabanas.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from busy Jalan Sultan Ismail to avoid street noises. Else a high-enough floor.

A very standard 5 stars hotel in Asia. Nothing to fault but also nothing impressive. The walk to mono rail station is short but the pedestrian path in KL in not well paved so the walk is not enjoyable. Though it is also within walking distance to Bintang walk and twin tower, but it is so hot to walk. The hotel only provide executive taxi so prepare to pay double compared with normal taxi. The hotel does provides 2 added services but they do not tell hotel guest. One is the free flow of coffee in hotel lobby, but they hide the coffee corner behind lift lobby. The other is free shuttle bus to major shopping centers which we did not notice as the bus schedule is printed in a small card placed inside the information folder.

Shangri-la is a cut above most other hotels in town and represents the best value-for-money. Excellent facilities and comfortable rooms that provide the perfect retreat from the KL chaos. The hotel is so nice you may not want to go outside at all.

We enjoyed our stay here some years ago. We stopped here twice on the same trip and the hotel staff were great. They stored our excess luggage as we took a regional trip for several days by light aircraft. On out return this was retrieved for us and we had a new room for the remainder of the trip.

The rooms were quite spacious and well furnished. The restaurants in the hotel were really good with a high standard of food and nice atmospheres.

Once again the breakfasts at the Shangri-la are amazing and the evening buffet in one of the restaurants was bordering on epic.

The pool on the roof of the annex is nice and provides a good view of the KL and Pertonas towers. The hotel has a nice garden and ornamental pool.

We had call to need the medical surgery during our visit and even this was very well run and provided swift a great service.

The value through Malaysia Airlines was staggering at the time, not sure of this is still available.

Stayed at the Shang, KL last April 20-23 with wife and two kids aged 9 and 6. We booked a horizon club room that gave us access to the club lounge.

Price: hotel is inexpensive compared to similar hotel in singapore or philippines.

Check-in and Check-out : dedicated, on the 2nd level. very fast and very helpful guy.

Bellboy: very slow, it took around 30 minutes and a phone call before they brought our luggage up.

Room: spacious even with the extra bed for my 9yr old kid.

Food: the lemon garden has quite a good amount of choices from asian dishes to delicious pistachio croissants! you can chose to have breakfast at club horizon lounge (if you booked a club room) but if you've got kids with you, the lemon garden has faar better and more choices.

: club lounge has all day refreshments and snacks. the kids could just go there and grab something whenever they got hungry. their chocolate cookies and tuna sandwich are to-die-for ... kids loved them very much! more choices of snacks if you drop by from 3pm-5pm. then cocktails from 5pm which is a good excuse to not go back to room yet :)

: daily fruit basket replenished daily -- oranges, mangos, grapes, banana, pears and lots of other fruits i couldnt identify LOL

Pool: i dont know, but it kind of tastes salty ... could be from the chlorine or whatever thing they mix in there. but at least tho its not hard on the eyes.

Spa/Massage: mediocre at best. when the masseuse got the feeling that i was asleep (i pretended I was LOL), the pressure on her massage suddenly got way weak and she would take several seconds break.

Location: great! 10 minutes walk from the petronas and for the party goers, there a lot of pretty crowded bars/pubs/discos around the area.

.... overall, the hotel was great. staff were ok although those you would see walking around wont greet you but if you approach them they are more than happy to be of help and knowledgeable about things in the area.
