A very thoughtful, finely curated collection exhibited within a beautiful, colorful structure that also embodies Islamic architecture. I learned so much about Islamic art and history in such a visually stunning way. The didactic panels were artfully and meticulously composed, which is a difficult task when trying to describe the nuances of art, culture and faith and their subsequent intersections. I did not visit during dining hours but would have liked to; the dining area looked very inviting. I have visited a number of art museums worldwide and this was at the top!

This is a great and accessible collection. We go once every year. It is an eye opener. Chinese Muslim culture is something to help mess with local Malay Muslim’s prejudices (since they often equate Islam and Malay-ness). Seeing beautiful Chinese Muslim calligraphy and models of mosques that look like pagodas is awe inspiring.
One thing that this museum opens the visitor to is the diversity of Islamic culture. In many ways there is no uniqueness. Syrian mosques are
Byzantine as are Turkish. Traditional Indonesian and Malaysian mosques look like Balinese pagodas. Indian mosques are Indian. Andalusian and Moroccan are Andalusian/Moroccan. None of them has a claim to being more Muslim since Islamic culture is just an Islamisation of local culture. This museum more than anything shows the diversity that is Islam.

A must visit. Some very old and antique islamic history. The location of the museum is not far from the city centre.

The museum is a little tricky to find if you use public transport but it’s worth going. The 1st floor has some epic replica models of famous mosques and all exhibits have been put together very well. It’s a calm, relaxed environment. There is no dress code and it is well air conditioned.

The only thing I’d improve is using chronology to help people understand which era of Islam they’re looking at in the different exhibits. Maybe a timeline on a wall or defining the exhibits by eras would be helpful.

Enthralled my 14 yr old son. Excellent opportunity to discuss the Islamic domination of sciences during the European Dark Ages. Really interesting and well set out. Several ornate domes a highlight. Scale models of significant mosques are the world a highlight. Museum shop helpful for souvenirs
