Parking is an extreme challenge as many hundreds gathered to watch the sunset bat flight but it was worth it to watch these guys fly out and gather in ‘clouds’ over the city. We were told early spring is their ‘low season’ - I can only imagine them when there are 4 or 5 times as many. You can stand on the bridge or to the side in the park. Many people were on paddle boards and in kayaks on the river. This activity is suitable for children but don’t make a special trip, do it on your way to or from dinner.

REALLY cool experience and a must see if you're in the Austin area! We made the mistake of standing on the bottom part of the bridge....The raindrops that you're feeling your hair, well that's not raindrops!!! Having said that, my hair was quite silky for the next couple days! Be prepared for a musty odor when the bats start to move out. Definitely something worth seeing...but stand on the TOP of the overpass!!

South Congress is a lot like Asheville, NC on steroids. Hip, funky and fun....loaded with cool shops and eateries. Well worth an afternoon.

When you read about the bats in such great numbers you think there can't surely be that many. When they all swarm out at sunset you can well believe it.

Check the expected time for sunset and make sure you are there early as the bridge gets very busy. Within a couple of minutes of the sun going down entirely they are out. It only takes about 5-10 minutes for them all to leave so you are not hanging around for ages.

We witnessed it from the bridge but with hindsight we would have been better trying to get to at least the middle of the bridge.

There were a number of boat tours positioned on the river and I imagine the view from there would be great.

We did the small boats with plastic chairs (and no bathroom!). Our guide was very disappointing. We could hear the guide from another larger double decker boat that seemed to be much better. We could have stood on the bridge and picked which boat to listen to. It was a neat site but there was definately a lack of ability for many of the guides we saw on the river... they were not knowledgable or entertaining. I would not recommend the boats to anyone!
