This is definitely worth seeing. The little opera house is so cute, and for only 1-2 reais (1 for students and seniors) you can tour the whole place. There was a guide, Paulo, who is knowledgeable about many aspects of the the theatre. There is also a dressing room in the basement that should not be missed, as well as the audience seats and the stage itself. Fantastic photo op if you are interested in old theatres or opera houses.

for $R2 this was a fun diversion. You can walk onto the stage of the oldest theater in South America. They have events at night.

This small building on a side street off the main square should not be missed. For 2Rs you can wander around and admire the style and balconies and even wander on to the stage. It is older than the opera house at Manaus and in its simplicity stunning.

My family is from Ouro Preto. I've lived there. I've been in Ouro Preto countless times. And everytime I've been to this small Opera house. And I plan to keep going there every opportunity. Never enough.
