Decent hotel, with very good breakfast (fruit, cakes, juices, sandwiches, meat, cheese). Rooms a bit outdated, but good value for the price we paid. Reception speaks english and staff is very friendly. Near to the beach and to the metro.

Hotel Canadá Is well located, reasonable in price with a very good staff and well kept facilities. The location on Avenida Nossa Senhora de Copacabana near the intersection with Santa Clara places it near some good eating places, transportation and a short walk to the beach. We have known the area since the 1970s and have stayed in another nearby hotel over the last few visits. This was a return to Hotel Canadá after thirty years and a modernization has proven it to have kept up with the times. The hotel has no restaurant but serves the included good breakfast in a pleasant dining area with a pleasing selection of items. Our room was clean, well maintained and included a vestibule with closet space and small table with two chairs. Unlike our visit thirty years ago there was plentiful hot water rather than the old electric shower head with warmish water. The front desk was very helpful and quickly solved a problem in which the online booking agent (HotelsOne) used to book from up north had apparently not transferred the payment by our arrival date. The rooms have mini bars with water, beer and soft drinks and room service for limited sandwiches is available at night. There are many good eating places within a few blocks walk. There are no "rooms with a view" but it is a comfortable and pleasant place to stay while one goes to views and activities. It is a city hotel on a busy street so unless the air conditioning is used there is some noise in street facing rooms and some noise from service areas in halls and other areas where windows may be open.

Accessibility as required in some countries is not as prevalent in Brazil. The hotel has a step up into the lower lobby and a half floor of steps up to the desk area and normal elevator access.

The hotel is only one block from Copacabana beach but is much cheaper than hotels located ON the main boulevard. Professional and helpful staff, clean rooms. Several bars/restaurants in the neighborhood.

We were extremely lucky to find accommodation two months before the kick off of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. We were heading to the closing ceremony. After searching for places in Expedia, Kayak, Trivago, you name it... we decided to try searching for hotels in TripAdvisor. Grande Hotel Canadá popped up on our screen. We were drawn, like a magnet attracts iron, by its affordable price.

When we got there, first we were impressed by its location, two blocks from Copacabana beach, fairly close to the big Rio 2016 mega store. Then we were delighted by the front of house staff, fantastic and friendly bunch. The next day we went for our breakfast, meu deus! amazing and delicious, nice variety. We loved that we could find delicious typical Brazilian goddies like pão de queijo, miraculously we didn't gain weight with all those delicious calories... probably all the walking we did around the cidade maravilhosa helped too.

We have to express big thank you to Silvana, our housekepper, she kept our room spotless. Fantastic lady.

The hotel is located two blocks away from Siqueira Campos metro station. Main buses also go around Nossa Senhora de Copacabana Avenue. We walked and walked, we rode the buses, we rode the metro and location is a big bonus with the hotel.

If you are an easy going, laid back, curious traveler, tha can mumble a few words in Portuguese plus put in some Spanish and speak Portuñol, then you will have a blast staying here. All staff, like we said, is super friendly.

Enjoy your trip,

josé g.
