This hotel has clearly gone through the list of stuff need to be a 4* hotel and implemented them all paying no attention to the quality of its infrastructure or the training of its staff. Lets start with the positives:

The location was within a stone throw of a tube station and the municipal theatre. In addition there is a street food hotspot just down towards the main road (turn left when you walk out the door). Also a VERY powerful shower which i like. This was where it ended.

The powerful shower although powerful was hard to get to the correct temp and you have this trouble every time you go in. The air con was also erratic and either too hot or too cold in the room.

In addition a cleaning lady mistakenly took my PJs, which is annoying especially when reception admitted that this happened however did nothing about it or try to compensate me in anyway. They said they would look for them but never got back to me.

Also charging for water in a 4* hotel is a little cheeky since you have no choice but to drink bottled water over here.

Overall this place needs to focus a little more on training of its people and a little less on how many starts it has.

Wifi was average and a little unreliable at peek times but not too bad.

The "Very Good" rating for this review is for the location, service, and the exceptional breakfast buffet. The room itself merits the "Average" rating.

We arrived around 11:00 am and were promptly checked in. I asked for a room overlooking the street and we got it. While the room was clean, the bed appeared broken on the side. So, without unpacking, I went down and requested another room. Again, promptly they gave us another room. This one too overlooked the street and had a balcony. We heard no street noise from our room, especially when the windows and doors were closed. There was an air conditioner too, but it was quite noisy.

The room was very clean, but very plain. It was rather small too, so was the bathroom - clean, but small. Most importantly, the room had a safe, which is a requisite element for Rio. Though our room was small, it was functional, we also had a small hallway. The beds were very average, rather hard, not the best ones in the world, for sure. The Wi-Fi was dependable and worked well. There is a cute little pool on the rooftop, but we did not get to use it, went up there for the views, though.

The front desk people were consistently helpful and responsive. We wanted to go to a football game at Maracanã Stadium, and the lady at reception did everything she could to help. She was even willing to buy the tickets over the phone, but the hold time was too long, so we chose to buy the tickets directly at the stadium, and she provided helpful directions.

The location of Hotel OK for seeing the historical sights in Rio is phenomenally convenient. It's near Cinelândia Square, which has many beautiful historical buildings, including the stunning Teatro Municipal and the magnificent Rio City Hall, which was formerly a palace. The hotel is within walking distance of Lapa, Catedral Metropolitana, Praça XV, even Mosteiro de São Bento, among many others. Also, the subway stop called Cinelândia is very near the hotel. By the way, subway in Rio is very safe, efficient, and inexpensive, buy fare for the plastic subway card for several trips, if you have a need. Taxis too are quite inexpensive by North American standards. There are also quite a few restaurants and cafes near Hotel OK.

One evening we discovered that there was no hot water in our room. We called the reception desk, and they quickly sent up a mechanic, who assessed the situation and determined that it was not an easy fix, and the earliest we could get hot water would be in the morning. It's an old and historic building, and the setup appeared to be such that this malfunction affected only our room. I told the front desk that we really needed to take a shower, and they offered to move us to another room. Tired from a full day of sightseeing, we did not wish to move rooms, so they offered us keys to another available room where we could just take a shower, and return to ours. We took them up on it, and had the memorable experience of trekking to another room for the shower, and trekking back to our original room. Unorthodox, a bit inconvenient, but they were responsive, in the end all was good, and we got a story to remember. To our relief, we had hot water in the morning.

The breakfast buffet could safely belong in any 5-star hotel. In fact, it was better than those I have encountered in quite a few 5-star hotels. They had varied selections of hot meals, breads, pastries, and other baked goods, cereals, cheese wheels of different types, many cut fruits, and great coffee, of course, which is quite common in Brazil.

Overall, this hotel was great for visiting the historical sights of Rio. For hanging out on the beaches, I would select a hotel near those, as it's about a half-hour taxi ride from this hotel to Copacabana or Ipanema Beaches. I can definitely recommend this hotel for Rio's city center and historical areas.

Very good location; close to downtown, metro, bus station, restaurant, supermarket & domestic airport.
Looks old fashioned building, rooms are comfortable. Wifi is good. Hot shower available.
Good breakfast.
Staffs are nice, they are patience to let you know how to get to the major sightseeing;
especially thanks to helpful 'Fabiano' & good speaking English 'Thiago'.

This was very nice place to stay. Hotel is positioned in center of Rio and metro is just behind. Lapa is 5 min. away by walk. Food in hotel was great and stuff is nice, kind and helpful.
Do not expect beautiful views from rooms as hotel is surrounded by other buildings.
Hotels is in old style but everything is clean.

Room tip: Take room on lower levels in case You need to walk with stairs and You will also come faster to restaurant.

Location is good if you like to go out and about at night. Good variety of restaurants and transportation options are walking distance. More and more cultural venues are opening around here and it is very close to the Santos Dhomont Domestic Airport. Staff was friendly and internet works ok. Beds are not something they can be proud of and a bit noisy if you face the main street. Good for a couple of nights but not more.

Room tip: ask for a quiet room in a lower floor because elevators are slow
