For really not much more than what I paid for a dorm bed at those I stayed in similarly big cities (such as Buenos Aires, Montevideo & Rio), I got at this place my own room which was not a drab-looking one but a modern "kind of chic" one (with a flat-screen TV, a small fridge, a/c, a telephone & an ensuite bath) with the only downside being its "fairly economy" size (still some space to move around and yes overall a "proper room" here, unlike the one at the place later in Brasilia my next stop which was just pretty much a closet!), and also included in the price was a "great buffet" breakfast (not a basic one but a variety of something like 10 items to choose from). Then yes, on top of those great attributes is also a great location pretty much right in the heart of the city with plenty of miscellaneous shops & restaurants right around and Republica metro station (Line 4) at just a walk of 5 minutes or so (a right turn after coming out followed by a left shortly after onto the big street where there's actually also a tourist info kiosk right before the station).

Breakfast is average. Juices are very watery. Pineapple not ripe. Our room had a minuscule window opening on a tiny closed area giving no light at all. Beds were hard but you can sleep ok. Nightstands are attached to the bed and with three in a row, we had difficulty using the plugs. We had to charge electronics in the bathroom or unplug the fridge, not practical.

Friendly and welcoming staff. We were able to get our room a few hours before the check in, as a courtesy from them.
The room was not big, big enough space for luggage, great bed, good shower and it had amazing blackout courtains.
Breakfast was amazing, many options of breads, fruits, coffe, yougurt, basically everything.
It is located in the heart of São Paulo, you can take the metro from Republica Station (yellow and red lines) to go anywhere or walk around in the main places in the centre, like Catedral da Sé, Bairro da Liberdade, Praça da República, Theatro Municipal, Vale do Anhangabaú... they are all walking distance from the hotel, 30 minutes maximum. At night, the city centre can be a little dangerous, but as long as you are careful, it is just as dangerous as any other bigi city like SP.
The hotel has a very good cost-benefit, not expensive and has everything that is necessary, it isn't a luxuous place, but still, very good indeed.
The only two things I didn't like were: the Wi-Fi failing few times and the noise from the street in the middle of the night, maybe rooms that are not facing the Epitacio Pessoa St. don't have this problem.
