Jianshan temple is worth a visit if you have several days in Guilin. It is close to the Moon Hill and Li River bamboo raft cruising and so is an easy inclusion. The temple dates from the 6th Century, but has been rebuilt several times. It is "working temple" with resident monks and appears to serve the religious needs of the local community, although there is a "gouging" element to many aspects of its operation (entrance fee, ridiculous prices for incense votives, etc.). Neither the temple nor the grounds are extensive and it can be visited fully in a little over an hour.
