I experienced an enjoyable round as I was in town for family get together and had morning tee time. First of all, small clubhouse with small grill with nice choices to begin day. Second, the payment process and Starter did a good job as I actually was paired with two dudes and we teed off several minutes earlier than tee time. Good deal so far. Third, the course is situated in old downtown Birmingham to provide several beautiful skyline views and going to course saw lots of people enjoying the day and jogging. Fourth, the course is short with lots of undulation which made a few holes challenging but overall never felt timid by course, simply hit shots and not overly challenging but enjoyable because it was new yet not threatening. Finally, the course is very well maintained, even some beautiful holes such as second par three which is down hill over a lake.
In review, I liked the course. However, it is not as nice as Cider Ridge and Limestone Springs (both of those are highly recommended and wonderful golf courses). Also, felt like it was a tad over prices as similar courses I have played would be $30-$38 bucks for a round but understand it is in Birmingham. If in Birmingham an have some time to spare, enjoy Highland Park.
Green fees about average or a little high for a municipal course. Walkers allowed. Back nine short and more hilly. Good advantage for women players. Interesting holes.
Shorter course - greens and fairways are well maintained. Club house is a little old, but location is great if you are conducting business in downtown Birmingham.
bobby jones played here in a us amateur. its totally redone, short, up and down hills, great greens, a fun round of golf with some neat view of old homes in birmingham and of the city sky-line.
I had a meeting here last week with a client and it was fantastic, great view, of the course, good food from the grill! Thanks Highlands Golf Course!
Fun course although a bit short. Some spectacular views of downtown.
Value and quality second to none!
Staff is knowledgeable, helpful and friendly.
p.s. If you like spicy food, order a "J Dog" (not on menu).
