We enjoyed lunch at the Old Cafe in Xuzhou, enjoyed the mushrooms so much we asked for more!! The restaurant is in a 200 year old house, we sat upstairs this gave us the opportunity to see the architecture of the roof timber. The outside wall on the front is at least 600mm thick!!

This cafe is operated by Yang Wendou (John Yang) and his wife, two individuals who are knowledgeable and passionate about the culture of this region. Besides being a place to drink tea or coffee, have a snack, there is even pepperoni pizza (!) on the menu. Although I didn't try it, others say it is great.

This is a great spot to inquire about the history and culture of Xizhou and surrounding area since both husband and wife are willing to share what they know.

Xizhou is worth spending at least one or two nights rather than simply a partial day trip from Dali.

Met the owner by accident and he spontaneously offered to show us around in the city. His english is very well and he knows all the city, the history and the ancient houses (and owners) which are kept and renovated. His interest is to keep the ancient history and houses for education.
Also if you are looking for good food and drinks, map of the city, tours or just information and questions you are on the right place at the Old House Cafe.
Thank you for the pleasant and interesting morning you gave us.
Best regards, Karin

Old House Cafe is located not far from the center of Xizhou Old Town (Sifang Jie) on the street going to Zhengyimen. The menu includes coffee, juice, breakfast, pasta, pizza, local Chinese food, salads, and more. The owner is particularly friendly and very helpful-- he's a local who is passionate about Xizhou history and culture, and he is knowledgeable about Yunnan travel and would love to talk with you-- he has great English as well. I recommend this place especially for foreign tourists who are interested to know a bit more about Xizhou or Yunnan in general, and for anyone who wants a decently priced Western meal or cup of coffee or some fresh juice. The owner can give you great tips on what to see and do in Xizhou and around the area.

We came on a scooter from Dali and stoppen here for lunch and coffee. The food is great and so is the coffee and fresh juices. All is reasonably priced and the quality is excellent. The owner is a charming guy and knows everything about Yunnan. He gave us some great information about Shaxi, Tiger Leaping Gorge and other spots. We highly recommend this lovely old house for food, drink and athmosphere.
