We stayed here 11th-25th June 2017 .The hotel on the outside looks dated but it was very clean.Elvira our cleaner for two weeks kept our room spotless ,clean towels and bedding .The food was lovely mainly catering for Europeans but plenty of choice .Eggs and pancakes and doughnuts cooked fresh,We was there two weeks and never had same meal ,All the staff are friendly the bar staff too ,the hotel had entertainment on some nights and on others you could go to the other hotels in the chain the crystal and Diamante. They had the daily entertainment on at these but we did not bother just relaxed by the pool. The only fault I would say is that they is a pool bar near the beach which is open to everybody yet it has no toilet ,we saw German men going into the bushes or sea during the day the Rubin pool toilets can be used but this shuts at 6.We was fine as we were on level 1 so could walk back to our room .They also did not open the pool until 9 yet people still queued up and put towels on then went off for breakfast and never came back ,This is our fourth time to Croatia twice on the Istrian coast it is just stunning and so relaxing,

Room tip: We had level one they is sunbeds on the grass outside plus they is not as many steps to walk up from the beach

Hotel is very well located about 10 minutes outside Porec,in a wooded area along the coastline. We stayed for seven nights and had an enjoyable visit with few problems. The cleaning and bar staff were very efficient and friendly.T here was a very good selection at both breakfast and dinner buffets and everything was topped regularly
Porec is a pleasant town with a great selection of restaurants and bars.and boat trips can be booked from the harbour.
Entertainment is pretty miminal but guests can avail of the facilities in the sister-hotel next door

arrived expecting a upgrade as requested reception knew nothing about a upgrade
We had a classic room when we asked for a kettle we were told they are for superior room only (we felt like second class citizens ) So we asked for a superior room to be told it would be £22 per night unless we wait untill saturday (4 days away ) we accepted the superior room (lol ) it was a cloth thrown over a piece of wood but did have a limited see view. The food was quiet good but were told we would be charged for Tap Watet. To cap it all our early morning callnever materals

Room tip: high floors for views long wait for lifts

This hotel is with two other on a small bay. The stones beach is great for children and adults alike. Bouncy water feature, quiet walks in the beautiful wooded area around these hotels. 10minute walk into Poric. Small train runs regularly. Hire of bikes, scooters etc.
This hotel stands next to two other Valamar hotels with 4 star ratings. All entertainment during the day appears to happen at the Crystal. Nothing was organised at the Rubin.
This hotel was defiantly the poor relation. The rooms were basic, needed decorating. We were apparently in a superior room. Huge bed with a chunky wooden frame suspended to the ceiling and a bit of cotton over as a canopy. This according to the Valamar brochure a romantic hotel. Mini bar in the room covered with a worktop at the bottom of the bed. Two people could not pass. Fridge under the mirror so could not sit to do make up. No kettle, but we asked and got one because we were in a superior room!!
Shower hung limply from its fitting all holiday had to hold by hand to wash . If water power to high washed the floor.
Towels were thin, very thin and did not dry.
Corridors dark and smelt of stale cigarette smoke.
Lots of steps at the back of the hotel to get to pool and beach. Not lit at night.
Food was good, plenty of choice and staff in the restaurant and bar were lovely.
We had a great holiday but will not return to the Rubin.

The hotel is in a lovely setting next to sea and woodland and easy walking distance into Porec. There is also a road train and bicycle taxis to and from town and nearby beaches.
The hotel can only be described as ugly from the outside appearance, circa 1960/70s concrete blocks! The balconies were a combination of faded pink paint and streaks of rust. We had a seaview room and though the view was very pretty the large dilapidated balcony wasn't very appealing. The bedroom itself was average size and to be fair was comfortable. It was what you expect from 3star I suppose, having no safe, mini fridge, tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom was very dated in appearance and the doors were in need of a paint job. The shower over the bath was very powerful and maintained it's temperature. The maid cleaned daily and towels were changed. There was a good standard of cleanliness in most places in the hotel but a few areas let it down. There are free pool towels, you are given a token at the start of your stay. There are lots of sunbeds and parasols available and helpful poolside staff. There is a small cafe/bar alongside the pool too. The water did feel pretty cold and the pool is quite shallow. My 6ft4in husband found it difficult to swim in it! We stayed on a half board basis and found it quite good with a good variety of dishes but sometimes something wasn't as hot as it should be. There was again a maintenance issue in here with quite a few heaters with broken sharp plastic on and dusty window sills. The curtains were a horrible browny colur which made it quite dull, though they weren't actually dirty. We tended to get a drink at the lobby bar and take it through with us to the restaurant as service wasn't very quick in the evenings. You can opt to book a lunch box for the next day rather than take one of your meals which is handy if you go out on a trip. The public areas were pleasant, various places to sit around the reception, lobby and bars. Wi fi is only useable in these public areas. Staff in general were friendly. We felt booking in was a bit chaotic, small reception desk with one young man and a lot of guests to check in, then little in the way of explanation of getting to your room or of any directions regarding routines. Porec is a lovely quaint town right on the waterfront and with narrow cobbled streets and also a big square. There are several boat trips available and lots of bars, restaurants and shops. We went on a day boat trip stopping at Rovinj and Vrsar and an evening dolphin cruise, though we didn't see many and only from afar. You could go by public bus to Pula which takes about 90 minutes. There are fast boats to Venice too but we didn't do this. We would return to Porec but wouldn't choose the Rubin for a return visit because of the areas and issues where we felt it fell short. This was our second holiday to Croatia, having been to Dubrovnik previously and we do think its a beautiful clean country.
