On March 26, 2016, Carl Reese set the fastest lap around the island of Mo'orea in the French Polynesian Islands. He set a lap time of 48 minutes and 18 seconds driving an 8-horsepower Peugeot 125cc Tweet Scooter. The lap around Mo'orea is also known as the Coconut Cannonball 125 where participants attempt to circle the island aboard rented scooters in the shortest amount of time.
We rented a scooter with Moorea Fun Bike for 10 days.
Jeff delivered and retrieved the scooter at our hotel and was always right on time. He was very accommodating when we decided to extend our reservation twice at the last minute. I think he is an ex-military so he was straight about the rental conditions and we were not pushed to take any extra insurance, which can happen sometimes at other locations. We did not experience any issue with the scooter. It is extremely cheap on fuel and was the perfect way for us to travel around the island (maximum speed on the island is 50 km/h / 30mph, which is exactly how fast our scooter could go with two people on it).
This was a perfect experience for us.
We found Moorea fun bike rental brochure in the Tahiti/Moorea tourist guide and gave them a call. Answered promptly and spoke reasonable English. Arranged to be picked up from our hotel (and were dropped off afterwards) and taken to motor scooter. A quick explanation 5000 francs and a copy of our credit card and off we went. Bike went great (50cc Puegot) and we returned it full of petrol 24 hrs later. Exactly 24 hrs - the whole experience went well and would highly recommend this company. He even gave us a great restaurant recommendation - review for that following.
